Mrs. Megha Goel, Associate Professor, Information Technology Department and Ms. Chesta Agarwal, Assistant Professor, Computer Science & Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a one- day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Data Mining and Social Media Analytics - Emerging Trends and Challenges"on 21st December, 2013,  organized by Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM  )in collaboration with AICTE, New Delhi and CSI Division-I & CSI Region-I. The objective of this programme was  to discuss various topics like Web Mining for Namesake Disambiguation & Alias Identification, Research Challenges in Web Mining, Hands on Rapid Miner, Wekaetc and  to provide practical hands-on  sessions  on the tool Rapid Miner for creation and preprocessing of big data.

The FDP was inaugurated  by Prof.  M. N.  Hoda, Director, BVICAM, New Delhi and Shri R. K. Vyas, RVP R-1, CSI followed by an enlightening lecture  by Shri Prakash Kumar, National Technology Officer, Microsoft.

Dr. Muhammad Abulaish, (HoD CSE), Jamia  Millia  Islamia University, New Delhi shared his knowledge on “Mining Nuggets from Data- Emerging Trends”. He  further discussed  advanced  steps in data mining, ease of data mining methodologies in extracting knowledge from the data. He also explained  some applications of Social Network Analysis and Mining and   highlighted  some significant methods for the analysis of social networks with many substantive examples.

Mr. Sajid Y. Bhat, Dept of CSE, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi  delivered a lecture on “Data Generation and Pre- processing using Rapid Miner”. He also introduced Gephi, which is an interactive visualization and exploration platform for all kinds of networks and complex systems, dynamic and hierarchical graphs..

The FDP was beneficial to the participants as they learnt and practiced different aspects of web mining, social network analysis, mining nuggets etc.
