On 8th March, 2013 four faculty members Mrs. Minakshi Memoria, Mrs. Manisha Saini, Mrs. Pooja Taneja and Mrs. Pinki Sethi from Computer Science Engineering Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a one-day Workshop on Big Data Analytics organised by the Department of Information Technology, Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity University, NOIDA (UP).

The aim of workshop was to bring together people from both academia and industry to present their most recent work related to big data issues, and exchange ideas and thoughts in order to advance this big data challenge, which has been considered as one of the most exciting opportunities of present times.

Inaugurating the workshop, Ms. Nitasha Hasteera, Head, Deptt of IT, Amity University said that use of big data underpins critical activities in all sectors of our society. She stressed that achieving the full transformative potential of big data in this increasingly digital world requires both new data analysis algorithms and a new class of systems to handle the dramatic data growth, the demand to integrate structured and unstructured data analytics.

Other eminent speaker were Dr. Manoj Kulshreshta, Dean, Amity University, NOIDA; Dr. T.V. Vijay Kumar from JNU, New Delhi; Ms. Deepa kaul from Sopra; Mr. Manoranjan Mohapatra from Mahindra Comviva; Mr. Yajuvender Singh from Data Services Impetus; Dr. Rajeev Gupta from IBM Research labs enlightened the participants about the scope and significance of different aspects related to big data analytics.

The workshop was useful and informative as it provided a forum to exchange research ideas related to all critical aspects of emerging analytics systems for big data, benchmarks and metrics, data management software, operating systems, and emerging challenges and opportunities reasoning computing needs of massive-scale analytics. The attendees learnt how to capture, storage, search, sharing, analysis, and visualize their big data that is difficult to process using data base management tool.
