Anupam Mahajan and Madhur Chanana, VII Semester studentsfromComputer Science Engineering Department ofDronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon participated in a two-day workshop on Cross-Platform Mobile App Development organised by IEEE-GBPCE atG.B. Pant College of Engineering, New Delhi on 28th- 29th September 2013. The objective of this workshop was to share the technical differences between Native Apps and Hybrid Apps, design guidelines for Hybrid Apps and disseminate the concepts required to develop the skills to create applications using HTML5, JQuery Mobile and Phone Gap.
The Guest-speaker Mr. Ashwin Makhija explained the advantages of using HTML5 for developing cross platform applications .i.e. applications capable of running on various platforms like Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS, Windows etc. He also gave a demonstration on practical implementation of a cross-platform application by running a server and a minor PHP script on his laptop, which synchronised the data and stored the data at the server instead of browser memory. The students were also provided with acomplete set of API’s and other tools to support their work.
The workshop was beneficial for students to learn various concepts like Mobile device evolution, Appcelerator, Titanium, Rhombile, Mo Sync, Corona, Marmalade, Adobe Air etc.
