The faculty members Mrs. Neelam Ruhil, Ms. Sarita and Mr. Amar Saraswat from CSE Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a Computer Hacking Public Lecture on “The changing face of malicious hacking: closing the crackers window of opportunity” organized by Sheffield Hallam University, UK at Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi on 7th March 2014.

The speakers Mr. Neil Richardson and Mr. Stephen Lofthouse talked about the basic hacking methods and the big companies that were hacked recently, in which, many multinational and anti-virus companies were named. They highlighted the current challenges faced by computer security professionals. They were basically focused on finding vulnerabilities in windows and linux operating system and then hacking into own computer as a experiment. They also elaborated NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection System), zero (0)-day, metasploit, linux, botnets and the world of malicious people who can steal your personal information to have fun and sometimes to pay bills from your credit card and many much more disastrous things.

The lecture was very informative as the speakers explained the various concepts about Hacking, including the problem of increase in Cyber Attacks, how attacks can happen, vulnerabilities, Kali Linux, Worms such as Conficker, DoS, DDos, Honey D, NIDS, Data Breach, Scientific Hooliganism and much more.

The attendees learnt the preventive measures that can be taken to safeguard the data from hackers.
