ONE- DAY INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO THE CENTRE FOR E-GOVERNANCE

 

On 12th March 2014, nineteen students of second year (IV ECE I) along with the two faculty members, Mr. Sumit Kumar & Ms. Chandra Mukherjee from Electronics & Communication Engineering Department visited Centre for E-Governance, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Electronics Niketan, 6-CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

The objective of this visit was to make students familiar with the technological initiatives taken by Govt. of India to provide online facilities to both urban and rural citizens. The Centre has been envisaged as the platform for showcasing advancement in ICT domain especially in e-Governance by demonstrating applications from states, central line ministries. In addition, it is meant to be a staging platform for cutting edge and emerging technology areas that are part of DeitY mandate and are of relevance to other ICT domain including electronics, Indian Language Solutions, emerging technologies in ICT domains and solutions for different centres.

Mr. Sunil Kumar, Technical Officer, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) addressed the students about "The NeGP Vision". The NeGP Vision is "Make all Public Services accessible to the common man in his locality, through common services delivery outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency and affordable costs to realize the basic needs of the common man".

He shared the technical aspects of all 31 Mission Mode Projects (MMPs) being implemented at the Central, State and Local Government Level Project like Banking, Insurance, Income Tax, Passport, Central Excise, MAC 21, Pensions, e-Office (Pilot), National ID/UID, Immigration / Visa, Posts, CSC, e-courts, EDI, e-Procurement, and e-Biz.

       

He also showed live demo of many e-governance services and discussed in detail manner that students learnt and  think why such services are required for a well governed country so that each and every common person of country gets benefitted.

       
       

Later, online quiz for students was also conducted based on discussed topics.

       

At the end of the session, Mrs. Kavita Bharti, Joint Secretary of Deity, met students and asked to share their ideas and views about the ‘Mission Mode Projects’ (MMPs) and also explained initiatives by Indian Government for social issues like women security. She also explained how they become the part of this e-governance concept which is already established in so many cities of the country. She awarded winner of the quiz competition Mr. Lokesh (First Winner), Mr. Himanshu Kataria (Second winner), Ms. Deepika (Third winner), and also, they honoured Faculty members by mementos.

       

Overall, the visit was informative and useful to the students as they learnt about current projects related to Cyber Security and Ethics. The students were encouraged to contribute innovative research ideas for well-being of Indian citizens.
