Mr. Dharmendra Pal, Associate Professor, IT and Mr. Vishal Bharti, Associate Professor, CSE from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended “Finale of CII Leadership Dialogue Series National Convention on Leadership and Mindfulness” on 3rd and 4th May 2013 at Epicentre, Sector 44, Gurgaon. The eventwas jointly supported by Max Health Care and Godrej Interio in alliance with SOIL (School of Inspired Leadership).

The session started with an Introduction and Invocationby Mr. Rajat Mehta, Convention Chair & Chief Operating Officer, Max Life Insurance Company Ltd, followed by Lightning of Lamp by Mr. Anil Shachdev,Chairman, CII National Committee on HR & CEO of SOIL. The session then moved on with speech on “Mindfulness at work” by Mr. Rahul Khosla, Managing Director, Max India. Dr. Shubro Sen, Director, Tata Management Training Centre discussed on the topic “Conscious Capitalism and leadership” followed by the speech of Swami Nikhilananda ji, Regional Head, Chinmaya Mission on “Going back to the roots- Spiritual Leadership”.

The event was divided into four sessions:

1. Session I- Making Sustainability Real – ‘The Challenge of Our Times’ was held by Mr. Nazeeb Arif, Vice President & Chief Corporate Communications ITC Ltd and Ms. Ashvini Deodeshmukh, Head- Sustainability & Green Initiatives, Godrej Interio who talked on topics “Sustainability in Leadership” and “Sustainability Initiative”.

2. Session II - Diversity – Valuing the uniqueness of each Person – ‘the key to Innovation’ Mr. Atindra Nath Bhattacharya, Professor, School of Inspired Leadership discussed a whitepaper on “Gender diversity”. Mr. Ashish Rai, Head Rural Business & Alliances, Hindustan Uniliver Ltd. spoke on “Rural Women empowerment HUL ‘Shakti Amma’ Initiative” followed by Ms. Rumjhum Chatterjee, Managing Director, Feedback InfrastructureCII who talked about “CII Task Force Recommendations”.

3. Session III - From Vision to Action: Making collaboration work – ‘the power of compassion’ Mr. Saumen Chakraborty, President, CFO & Global Head of HR, IT & Business Process Excellence, Dr. Reddy’s Lab shared his views on “Compassion in Leadership” followed by ‘Rise in Love’ – Taj Story by Mr. H. N. Shrinivas, Senior Vice President, The Indian Hotels Co Ltd (Taj Group) and Mr. Shyam Banerji, Film, Audiovisual and Sounds cape, Designer Performing Arts Curator, who gave a musical performance to make this theme more realistic.

4. Session IV- Creating Value through Ethics – ‘the reward for good governance’ Mr. Rajat Mehtaand Dr. P Nandakumar, Vice president Group HR – Leadership Development, Mahindra & Mahindragave speech on “Sharing the key insights ethics in Leadership”. Ms. Amrita Lallji and Ms. Urmila Chaudhary, Theatre Artists gave a theatrical performance on “Different Ethical Dilemmas Faced by Leaders in everyday life”.

The final session on “Mindfulness – a framework for value based leadership and collaboration” was held on4th May 2013 aimed to sensitize the industry leaders with respect to the changes taking place in the external and internal environment. Mr. Anil Shachdev spoke on “Integration of 5 values in leadership” followed by “Heroic operations Reconciliation in Insurgency” by Col. D. P. K. Pillay. Mr. Nitin Thakur, Head Communications, Max India threw light on “Action Workshop on Mindfulness – ‘Call for action Planning”

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Rajat Mehta. It was a great learning opportunity for all the participants.
