A four- day Student Development Program on “DB2” was organised at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in partnership with software giant IBM from 2nd to 5th April 2013. The objective of this workshop was to show the functional and performance improvements made possible by the integration of DB2 and latest technical prospects of relevantdatabase technologies like Microsoft SQL, Oracle, LINUX, UNIX, Buffer pools, Migrate applications, XML etc.

Inaugurating the program Prof. (Dr.) Jitender Kumar, Head, CSE & IT departments shared that DB2 is the first ever Database which encouraged the use of Structured Query Language (SQL). Talking about its importance, he expressed that when DB2 is started, buffer pools are initiated with attributes that determine, for example, the sizes and thresholds of individual buffer pools. The activity in buffer pools and their efficiency is affected by these static attributes.

Mrs. Neelam Ruhil, Associate Professor & Ms. Shipra Kataria, Assistant Professor from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering delivered lectures and demonstratedvarious important concepts including the DB2 environment, table spaces, schema, tables, Database backup & recovery, buffer pools and different data movement utilities etc.

Mrs. Tamanna Sehgal, Assistant Professor from the Department of Information and Mr. Chain Singh, Assistant Professor from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering imparted knowledge related to XML, XML schema, XML documents, stored procedure, triggers, embedded SQL etc.

More than 240 students from the Departments of CSE & IT participated in the training program which provided abundant knowledge of DB2 applications to them.
