IEEE Event on “Earth Day”

Ms. Monika Phulia, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended an IEEE Event “EARTH ACTIVITY DAY” at Select City Walk, Saket on 22nd April, 2015. This was the 3rd Earth day organized by IEEE Delhi Section. The motive of this event was to serve the mother earth. There was emphasis on “how to serve our planet” to promote the thinking of preserving the planet by controlling various things around us.

The event was coordinated by Mr. Ravinder Joshi, Treasurer IEEE, Delhi Section in association with BODYCARE. A series of activities were held during the event. The first activity was Quiz Competition which was open to all. Basic questions from nature & environment were asked in the Quiz. The Prizes for winners included – Solar Lamp for 1st winner, Encyclopedia for 2nd winner and Pen for 3rd winner. The second activity was Children Drawing Competition. The topic for drawing competition was “Earth Conservation.” The prizes for winners include different encyclopedia. One interesting activity was ‘Tulsi Distribution.’ In this particular event, people were motivated to take a pledge on the earth day to conserve & protect the planet in every possible way and for the purpose; mementos of “real tulsi plant” were distributed among the people. Last but not the least was Flash Mob Event in which people were made aware of the usage of environment friendly products which are renewable in nature & do not have impact on the nature.

On the whole, this event was fruitful in various aspects for improving the way of life by serving mother earth. The event highlighted on steps that can be followed to help counter climate change. These are as follows:

1. use of efficient lighting,

2. use of energy efficient electric appliances

3. use of energy efficient computer

4. use of renewable energy

5. to drive less

6. water carefully

7. say NO to plastic

8. plant more trees

9. turn-off electronic devices and

10. Reuse & recycle
