Industrial visit to CSIR - CEERI, Pilani, Rajasthan

An industrial visit to CSIR - CEERI (Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute),Pilani ,Rajasthan was organized by the IEEE Student Chapter of Dronacharya College Of Engineering, Gurgaon on 6th March ,2017. Fifty three students from ECE & EEE from IV Semester along with two Faculty members Dr.Jagdish Prasad Shivhare (Professor) and Dimple Saproo (R&D Head) visited the Research Institute. The main aim of the visit was to give exposure on various products and processes to the students to meet the emerging needs of electronics industry.

CSIR - Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR - CEERI), Pilani is a premier research Institute in the field of Electronics, established in 1953 under the aegis of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).The foundation stone of the institute was laid on 21st September 1953  by the  Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. CEERI offers consultancy services for new designs, and upgradation and absorption of technology to industry, R&D units and project engineering organizations and undertakes contract research on specific problems and requirements of electronic industry.

The students and the faculty members were welcomed by Mr.Vinod Verma (In charge, Training Section). They were given a brief introduction of CSIR CEERI and the R&D activities carried out. The students were divided into three Groups. Each Group was given the exposure of various labs. The students were explained about Magnetron; its working and applications overview of latest research. Later, the students visited the Cathode & Cathode Tube development lab. The lab technician explained the generation of cathode rays and its practical implementation in TWT, Gyrotron and Klystron .They were given the idea about the Development of electron gun, interaction cavity, collector and Gyrotron. The practical demonstration on manufacturing and designing of cathode glass tubes from raw materials was given to the students. The students also visited workshop lab, where they were informed about the various type of Lathe machines and its methods. The visit provided an awareness of research in three areas, namely Advanced Electronic Systems, Advanced Semiconductor Electronics and Microwave Tubes.

The industrial visit to CEERI was an enriching and a fruitful experience for all students as they experienced live exposure to manufacturing which can help them in their internships and further career enhancements.
