ICT Workshop on “Preparing Students for Job Interviews" |

A one day workshop on “Preparing Students for Job Interviews” was organized at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in collaboration with NITTTR Chandigarh through ICT on 12th August 2016. Fifty seven students of final year from CSE, IT, ECE, ME, and CSIT Department attended the workshop. |
The welcome address and the introduction was given by Dr. P.K.Tulsi, Head of the Department of Education and Educational Management, NITTTR, Chandigarh in which, she discussed about the statistics of the job available in the market for the various engineering fields. |
Dr. P.K. Tulsi, explained about effective ways to tackle an interview. Dr. Tulsi discussed that, aspirant should carefully review the responsibilities section of the job description and look at what the work will be, and come up with specific examples of things you excel at that mirror those responsibilities. Dr. Tulsi also said that each of these answers in some way should demonstrate the ability of aspirant to show your value and explain why you would be a good fit for the position. |
Proceeding the session, Mr. Sanmeet Sandhu, Thapar University, Patiala and Mr. Sunil Dutt, Professor , NITTTR Chandigarh explained method of making resume effective and shared some format with the participants. Dr. Dutt also explained about headings, and certain keywords, that are essential to add in resume. During his session, he explained that resume should be simple, and major focus should be given on emphasizing technical skills in it. |
Mr. Ramandeep Singh Sidhu, HR Head, Aerospace explained the students about the expectations of industry from technical graduates in which he discussed about the various rounds of an interview. Mr. Sidhu said that, Aptitude, Technical, Reasoning and HR round are the basic rounds, and resume should be prepared accordingly. |
Next, Dr. Vidhu Mohan, Former Professor of Psychology Department, Punjab University explained Pre and Post Interview Planning. She explained the students how to react, how to sit and how to manage one’s body language while facing interviews. |
Dr. Mohan advised that one should never use words which are not relevant to him / her. She gave an exercise to the students to examine them. During her session she shared a presentation that contained the following questions for self-analysis:- |
1. Who am I?
2. Interview Phase
3. Appearance
4. Timing |
In the end, a session on group discussion was taken up by Dr. S. P. Bedi, Professor, NITTTR Chandigarh, in which she discussed about ways to start group discussion, questions to be asked and responding them, and closing group discussion. |
Then, there was an interactive questions and answers session in which attendees raised some questions and their doubts about the issues related to preparing resume and tackle interviews. It was very interactive and knowledgeable session for the final year students. |
