Advancements in Fluid and Solid Mechanics (AFSM-2011)

Department of Mechanical Engineering, at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a one-day National Seminar on Advancements in Fluid and Solid Mechanics (AFSM-2011) on 20th August, 2011. The Chief-Guest Dr. Praveen Garg, Chairman, Faridabad Industries Association (FIA), Faridabad inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp followed by welcome address by Hon’ble Principal Prof. (Dr.) B. M. K. Prasad.

On this occasion Dr. Praveen Garg shared that the world we live in has been classified by the human mind, for descriptive and analysis purposes, to consist of fluids and solids, continua and molecules; and the analyses of fluids and solids at the continuum and molecular scales have traditionally been pursued separately. He emphasized that Fluid and Solid Mechanics have become an integral part of our life. Everything we design is based on mechanics. So, more experiments are to be done in the direction of fluid and solid mechanics.

Appreciating the organizing committee, Hon’ble Principal Prof. (Dr.) B. M. K. Prasad stated that such National Seminars  encourage  to  bring Industry & Academia together to provide an exciting research environment for the next generation in the field of Fluid and Solid Mechanics.

The Guest of Honour Dr. Sanjeev Kathuria, Ex. Chairman, FIA, Faridabad also addressed the students & faculty. Sharing his views, he stated that Nature does not distinguish between fluids and solids and does not ever repeat itself exactly. This new level of analysis must also include, in engineering, the effective optimization of systems, and the modeling and analysis of complete life spans of engineering products, from design to fabrication, to possibly multiple repairs, to end of service. He was reminded of his college-days when had a look of the laboratories set up at DCE, Gurgaon.

The entire seminar was divided into two technical sessions where the participants from different Engineering colleges presented their papers on Computational Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics, Stress Analysis, Rocket Engine, Single Point Moving System etc. This National Seminar was, indeed, a confluence of intellectuals of high level in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The Dean (Academics) Prof. (Dr.) Onkar Singh, Advisor (R & D) Prof. (Dr.) C. R. Singla, Prof. (Dr.) S. Krishan Yadav, Prof. (Dr.) S. V. Nair, Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Bagga, Prof. (Dr.) D. P. Singh,  Prof. (Dr.) H. S. Dua, Dr. Jitender Kumar  and other eminent dignitaries were also  present and motivated the participants.

The seminar (AFSM-2011) ended with a vote of thanks by the Coordinator Mr. Rajesh Mattoo who expressed his hearty gratitude towards all participants in making the seminar a great success.
