Following the dictum “History repeats itself”, this year too our sterling technocrats of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon made an enthusiastic participation in FIA- Faridabad’s prestigious Industrial Project Competition held on 21 April, 2012 at Faridabad.

The project entitled “Surface Computing”, the outcome of research by students-Yash Pal, Kislay Sinha, Shamim Akhtar, Manish Gupta, Nikhil Sachdeva designed under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Jitender Kumar, Head Department of Information Technology won the coveted First Prize among twenty-eight short listed projects from various colleges.

The researchers claimed that unlike a traditional computer which needs a keyboard and a mouse, the new device would blur the line between the real and the virtual world by its ability of taking inputs from the user and responding to them in real time. They also shared that in addition to fundamental functions, the new surface computer has interfaces for the latest computer games such as X-Box, Kinnet and PS2/3 with the 33X29 inch of screen, the computer weighs around 15 kg.

Congratulating the technocrats Mr. Praveen Garg, Chairman FIA (Faridabad Industries Association) said that the surface computing is a platform that responds to natural hand gestures and real world objects; it is capable of recognizing real objects and movement of human hands on the screen.

Two other projects “Power Generation by Ocean Waves” and “Smart Lift” from Mechanical Engineering Departmentand another project “Smart Baby Incubator” from Electronics and Communication Engineering Department were short listed in the completion held at FIA, Faridabad.
