A Session on VIRTUAL LABS at IIT Delhi

On 6th September 2014 , Prof. (Dr.) H.S. Dua (HOD, ECE), Ms. Meenu Gupta Assistant Professor from ECE & Ms. Sarita, Assistant Professor from Computer Science Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a Session on Virtual Labs..

Virtual Lab is an Initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development under the National Mission on Education through ICT. A virtual laboratory is a tool for distance learning and/or experimentation that allows people to share knowledge, data, voice, video, tools, and many other resources. It provides a suitable environment to extend, improve, integrate, refine, and assist the learning and/or experimentation process of many subjects, thus contributing to an increase of the effectiveness of scientific research and widening the use of scarce or costly equipment’s.

The main objective of this program is to increase awareness about Virtual labs to each Engineering colleges. The session was conducted by Dr. Ranjan Bose (Professor at IIT Delhi). Prof. Ranjan Bose started working on Virtual labs with the Project – Pilot Phase, funded by MHRD.

Speaker Put highlights on Objectives of Virtual Labs which are as follow:

1. To provide remote-access to labs in various discipline of Science and Engineering

2. To enthuse students to conduct experiments by arousing their curiosity.

3. To share costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to limited number of users due to constraint on time and geographical distances

4. To provide a computer learning management system around the Virtual labs where the students can avail the various tools for learning ,including additional web – resources , video –lectures, animated demonstrations and self-evaluation

Broad area of Virtual labs are Computer Science and Engineeirng, Electronic and communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineeirng, Chemical Engineeirng , Biomedical Engineering , Civil Engineeirng , Physical science , Chemical Science.

Overall the program was very interactive and knowledgeable to all the faculty members.
