One Day Workshop Conducted

By Nodel Centre of IIT Delhi For Virtual Lab

A one day workshop on “Virtual Labs” was organized in Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon on 12th November 2014 in associations with IIT Delhi. Virtual Labs is an initiative of MHRD, Govt of India under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT). 140 students of DCE (ECE, CSE, EEE, IT and ME ) and 73 students from other Colleges ( KR Mangalam School of Engineering, Savera College of Engineering and BM Group of Institutions) participated in the workshop. Three experts from IIT Delhi gave their views and demonstrated a few experiments related to Virtual Labs of different branches.

The workshop started with a welcome speech by Prof. (Dr.) M. N. Hussain, Principal, DCE Gurgaon on the growing role and acceptance of “Virtual Labs” in current science and technology education. Prof. (Dr.) H. S. Dua, Virtual Lab Nodal Coordinator gave a brief introduction of Virtual Labs He briefed about the need and usefulness of Virtual labs and the basic purpose of providing remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science.

Mr. Tanmay Das, IIT Delhi expert, explained in detail about VLab portal, highlighting its important features and accesses developed by different participating institutes. These labs cater to students at the undergraduate and post graduate levels as well as to research scholars. Mr. Bhairab, Integration Engineer, IIT Delhi continued with the demonstration of Data Structure and Programming Technique labs to the students. The session was very interactive and students enjoyed while learning important concepts of virtual lab.

Mr. Shubham, Field Engineer, IIT Delhi demonstrated a few experiments of Basic Electronics lab to the students. The objective of the demonstration was to make students well conversant with the principles and functions of Virtual Labs.

In the post-tea session, students were allowed to do hands-on practice on the Virtual Lab Portal. The students were divided into 4 computer labs, where they did experiments in Digital Logic Design, Instrumentation, Basic Electronics and Programming Techniques. The students were guided by two faculty and technical staff in each computer lab. They performed at least two experiments on their own in each lab. The workshop ended with the distribution of certificates to all the participants.
