Mr. Bhupender, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of ECE, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, presented a paper on “A Video Directional Weighted Median Filter with Adaptive Threshold and Color Correction” in an international conference on “Intelligent Systems and Signal Processing (ISSP-2013)” organized by G H Patel College of Engineering & Technology, affiliated to Gujarat Technological University, on 1st-2nd March, 2013.

A few eminent personalities from different parts of country as well as from abroad addressed the gathering to motivate the researchers and other delegates from different parts of the world. 106 papers were presented during the conference in following different tracks: (a) Signal and Image Processing: Applications (b) Intelligent Systems and Applications (c) Communication, Embedded and Automated Systems (d) Networks and Security (e) Data Mining, Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition (f) Special PG Track.

Dr. Himanshu Soni, Principal, G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) motivated the researchers to work in an interdisciplinary field for the betterment of the society and technical security of mankind; he introduced the speakers of the workshops Mr. Ajay Nawani, Dr. Malay Kumar Nema and Dr. H. D. Mustafa. Mr. Ajay Nawani, Operational Head, Cyberoam Technologies, focused on internet security and cloud computing during his talk on ‘Securing Virtual Cloud’. Dr. Malay Kumar Nema, Scientist E, Computer Vision Group, CAIR, Bangalore, discussed different aspects of image and video processing during workshop on ‘Image and Video Exploitation Techniques’. Dr. H. D. Mustafa, President R&D, Transocean Inc & RIG Ltd, is also an eminent speaker whose topic was ‘Power Line Communication’.

The chief guest Dr. Tohru Asami, Professor, University of Tokyo, has been a project leader of “Development of Next-generation High-efficiency Network Device Technology” in New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japan from 2007 to 2012. He threw light on ‘Goals of Future Networks toward Sustainable Society’. This talk summarized the outcomes of the 5-year project to develop high-efficiency network device technologies under NEDO from the point of energy efficiency. A keynote speaker Dr. Shabbir Merchant, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Mumbai, shared his thoughts on ‘Cognitive Radio’. Dr. Krishna Prasad, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar presented his research work on ‘Applications of Computational Techniques in Neuro-Imagining’. Dr. Pushpak Bhattacharyya, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai presented his research in the field of ‘Machine Learning: A Knowledge based and Statistical Perspective’. Dr. Bhabani P Sinha, Professor, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), presented a new topic of research “A New approach to Energy Efficient Communication in Wireless Networks”.

Conclusion: The conference was a great success and all the delegates got an opportunity to get exposed to the latest development in the field of “Intelligent Systems and Signal Processing”.
