Digital Financial Literacy Campaign

National Convention of student volunteers

National Convention of Student volunteers (Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan) was organized on 8th March 2017 at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi under Digital Financial Literacy Campaign. 10 Volunteers along with four Faculty members Dr. Jagdish Prasad Shivhare (Professor, ECE), Dimple Saproo  (R&D Head), Mr.Ashok Kumar (Associate Professor, APS), Mr. Dharamvir (Assistant Professor, APS) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon  attended the Convention. The purpose of the Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan was to actively engage the youth / students of Higher Education Institutions to encourage and motivate all payers and payees to use a digitally enabled cashless economic system for transfer of funds. The event started with an opening remark by Dr.M.S. Manna, Director AICTE where he shared his views about the Campaign.  He said around 2000 volunteers participated in the programme. 4.3 lakh student volunteers mobilised in just 2 months & 20 lakh people took to digital Payment VIKASA. At the National Convention of Student Volunteers 400 best volunteers were awarded, along with 20 institutions that were identified as excelling in their efforts in spreading digital financial literacy. During this campaign the students trained people about how to open a bank account, link mobile number and the Aadhaar Card with the account and other information required for digital literacy.

 

The dignitaries that were present in the event were Honorable Minister  Shri Prakash Javadekar (Union Human Resource Development Minister) Honorable Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad (Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice), K.K.Sharma (Chief Secretary Current Affairs), R. Subrahmanyam (Additional Secretary (TE)) and Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe (A.I.C.T.E Chairman).

 

The Inagural speech was delivered by K.K.Sharma (Chief Sectary Current Affairs) where he expressed his views about Digital India and how it will help boost the economic stability with definite availability of funds for the welfare of masses at large, especially the poor and needy population. He also introduced all the Eminent Personalities on the dais.

 

Honorable Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar (Union Human Resource Development Minister) called upon Student Volunteers under Digital Financial Literacy Campaign to work whole heartedly for the wide spread dissemination of the Ideas of Prime Minister on Digital Economy so that the resources of the nation could be utilized in a transparent manner. The Minister congratulated the volunteers for their laudable efforts.

 

The Dignitaries expressed their views on Digital India Campaign Honorable Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, (Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice). Shri Prasad said, now in our population of more than 125 crore we are having 105 crore Mobile Phones, 112 crore Aadhaar Cards, 35 crore smart phones and 50 crore Internet Connections. He said Digital literacy campaign is intended to make India honest, digitally empowered and digitally united. He said this campaign is meant to change India.

 

On this occasion two short films on Digital Literacy were also screened and a brochure on Digital literacy efforts was also released. Awards were also given to volunteers and Institutions engaged in this task.

 

The Convention ended with the Concluding remark by R. Subrahmanyam, were he affirmed the commitment of the Volunteers to promote digital cashless transactions in the Country. He also encouraged the students to speak , educate  and train the people about the benefits and importance of a digital cashless economy.
