Short - term course on Achieving Managerial Excellence at NITTTR, Chandigarh

16th - 20th November 2015

NITTTR Chandigarh organized a short term course on “Achieving Managerial Excellence” from 16th to 20th November 2015. Dimple Saproo, HOD, ECE department from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the course.

The program was designed with the objective to:

1. Understand strategic planning and management concept, model and method for achieving excellence;

2. Conduct SWOT Analysis;

3. Understand individual and group aspects affecting organizational behavior;

4. Understand organization system i.e. structure, work, technology and human resource polices and culture;

5. Understand organizational dynamics in respect of change and development;

6. Achieve excellence through interventions of leadership, accreditation, HRD, Networking with industry, Dynamic curriculum, feedback system

The course started with the introductory talk by Dr. Rakesh K. Wats, Professor & Head, Media Centre & Continuing Education Centre coordinator of the program. He briefed about the contents of the course various aspects of planning and management. He also explained that managerial skills like technical, human and conceptual skills are required to achieve excellence.

Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, University Business School, Punjab University discussed about the parameters and strategies that are required to achieve in Managerial Excellence. Integrity is perhaps the most valued and respected quality of leadership and one of the most important management skills needed to be attained. He also explained that managerial excellence demonstrates good leadership skills, obeys and respects company policies and procedure, gets best from each and every employee and handles all his resources in an optimum manner. The session ended with a short video representing importance of managerial excellence for achieving better results and goals.

Mrs. Suditi Jindal, Director Learning Curve Academy was the speakers for second day. She briefed about different styles of leadership i.e. Autocratic, Bureaucratic, lassie-faire & democratic and Implementation of these styles for different situation. These styles were beautifully explained by quoting examples of famous leaders of the world. Various qualities of the leaders Knowledge, Effective Communication, Motivation and positive attitude were also discussed. She told that how these qualities are necessary to bring excellence in an organization. . Participants were enlightened with the behavior management theory an activity on SWOT analysis was conducted to understand leadership skills.

Mrs. Suditi Jindal took a session on Communication Skills for Excellence where she discussed the process of communication, verbal and non-verbal communication and its importance in our day-to-day life the session ended on some videos on communication skills and activities conducted.

Mrs. Manjula Thakur, took the session on Transformers Value discussed on Importance of Inter-personal Skills for excellence. She conducted various activities to make the participants learn the importance of understanding behavior by gestures of a person. There was a quiz to identify the actions of a person.

Mr. Sunil Dutt, Professor, NITTTR on Motivating self and others. He explained that motivation is a necessary factor for an individual. It could be internal or external as per the environment. If an individual is not motivated then the work efficiency of the individual as well as the organization is affected. The session ended on some videos on motivation and its importance to an individual

In the first session Dr. Y.K Anand, Prof. NITTTR discussed the importance of Role Efficacy in an organization. It is significant that an individual is clear of his/her goals in an organization so that the organization can achieve excellence in every aspect. If an individual is not clear in the vision of his own life or what he has to do in an organization then the ability to do anything is affected and excellence cannot be achieved. He also explained that an organization should build an environment where an individual feels motivated to do something because motivation is the only factor which brings out excellence.

In the second session Mr. Rajesh Jhamb discussed on ways to Managing Finance. He discussed various cash flow schemes and how an organization or an individual should plan the budget to achieve excellence. The session ended with a movie on managerial skills.

In morning session Dr. Sunil Dutt briefed about the Time management techniques and its importance. Time management starts with the commitment to change. Time management has enormous implications for organizations and the whole economy. He explained how a person should manage his time and prioritize tasks to reduce last moment stress. He stated the major themes arising from the literature on time management include the following:

1. Eliminate the Unnecessary

2. Plan Your Work

3. Multitasking

4. Know When To Multitask Creating an environment conducive to effectiveness

5. Setting of priorities

6. Carrying out activity around those priorities

7. The related process of reduction of time spent on non-priorities

8. Incentives to modify behavior to ensure compliance with time-related deadlines.

A feedback session was conducted by Dr. Sunil Dutt, and then the event ended with a Valediction.
