Report on “International Authoring Workshop” held on 25th January

2013 at IGNOU Campus

 

IGNOU’s (Indira Gandhi National Open University) School of Computer and Information Sciences organized an “International Authoring Workshop” on ‘How to write for and get published in Journals’ in association with Springer and Edanz.

       

Mr. Anuj Yadav, Second year student of Electronics and Computer Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the same.

       

The workshop was designed to help authors to write quality manuscripts that would be attractive to SCI indexed journals. The lectures during the workshop covered topics such as how non-native English authors can overcome the language barrier, writing a title that would attract readers, abstract writing, cover letter development, publication ethics and how to handle peer review comments.

       

The Workshop started by a few inspiring words from Mr. Shashi Bhushan, Director of School of Computer and Information Sciences. It was followed by a presentation from Dr. William F.Cutis, Executive Vice President Clinical Medicine/Biomedicine/Life sciences, Springer Germany, regarding ‘Chances and Opportunities for Researchers in India’ which showed us India’s achievements in research over the years and how these achievements could be further enhanced by the continued development of international publications led by regional researchers.

       

The main presentation was given by Mr. Anindan Ghosh from Springer India regarding ‘How to Write for and Get Published in Journals and Publish Manuscripts. The presentation mainly covered practical advice for successful publication. In addition to that, this module instilled a sense of professionalism and international standards for research. The main focus was on providing young scientists with the skills needed for publication success. It contained five sections, namely,

1. Scientific Publishing.

2. Before you Start tips.

3. Structuring your manuscript.

4. Hints & tips.

5. Books & Journals.

       

Mr. Benjamin Shaw, China and Global Director, Edanz told us about ‘Edanz’ and how useful it is to authors. The Workshop was followed by a quick presentation on ‘Support When You Publish With Springer’ by Ms. Shrini Chattarji from Springer India telling us how does Springer assist its authors in their publication endeavours. She also highlighted, the benefits to authors when they publish their book manuscripts with Springer.

       

Towards the end of the session Mrs. Julian Ritt, Executive Vice President Marketing, Springer Germany demonstrated the Springer Content Platform ‘SpringerLink’. The workshop was summed up with vote of thanks from IGNOU authorities and a quick in person suggestion about the betterment of workshop by Prof. Gopinath Pradhan, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU leaving us with invincible knowledge that was gained throughout the day.
