Engineering students should be creative learners, self-taught and able to apply theory to practice. But today we are facing one major challenge – “Skill Shortage” in engineers. Solution is to focus on effective “Learning Process”.

   
 

“Learners can become more effective as learners if they are made aware of the important qualities which they and other learners possess. Such knowledge is likely to improve their self-confidence, to give them more control over their learning, and to prevent them attributing learning difficulties to their own inadequacies”.

 
 

There are many different types and approaches to learning. To learn effectively it is important to tailor study habits to your own needs and approach, this often means choosing techniques that work for you and evaluating them from time to time to determine if you need to try something new. In the words of Earl Nightingale:

 
 

“One hour per day of study in your chosen field is all it takes. One hour per day of study will put you at the top of your field within three years. Within five years you'll be a national authority. In seven years, you can be one of the best people in the world at what you do.”

 
 

For effective Learning of students in academics we have to ensure that what knowledge we gave to students is up to date with employers’ needs. Our courses are modular and are structured around lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory work, and both individual and group projects which allow our students to gain hands-on experience of investigating and applying material from lectures and tutorials in a real world context.

 
     

Lectures

 
 

Lectures provide a guide to specific subject matter and explain the foundations of a subject on which a student’s knowledge can be developed.

 
     

Tutorials

 
 

Tutorial classes encourages students to active participation and understanding, allowing students to contribute freely, and supplements formal teaching in lectures, providing an opportunity for students to develop their ideas and skills. Tutorials also allow assessed work to be set and explained, as well as feedback to students on their knowledge and understanding, and their coursework performance. These classes are also a good place to practice transferable skills such as written and oral presentation, and to build career awareness and discipline-specific professional skills.

 
     

Laboratory classes

 
 

The practical content of our courses is high, and the skills that will develop, stand our students in good stead in competition for science/technology-based careers. All laboratory classes are supervised by lecturers and demonstrators who explain what individual practical sessions are about and what methodology will be used and why, and how the practical links to material presented in lectures and tutorials.

EVALUATION PROCESS

Internal Assessment in each theory subject consists of 50 marks:
  - 30 Marks to be assessed on the basis of Sessional Examinations (details appended below).
  - 10 Marks for attendance on the laid down criteria.
  - 10 Marks to be awarded on the basis of Teacher’s Assessment.
Guidelines and Syllabus for Sessional Examinations:
  - All the 3 Sessional examinations are compulsory and will be strictly conducted on the University Examination pattern.
  - First Sessional Examination will be conducted from the Syllabus covered in a subject up to the stipulated date of exams or a maximum of two units, (Unit 1 and 2), whichever is less.
  - Second Sessional Examination will be conducted from the Syllabus covered, after the 1st Sessional examination in a subject up to the stipulated date of exams or a maximum of two units, (Unit 3 and 4), whichever is less.
  - Each subject Sessional Examination will be of 50 marks, to be converted into 15 marks after evaluation.
  - Duration of Sessional Examination will be 2 hours.
Pre-University Examination:
  - Pre-University question paper has to be set from the Complete Syllabus of the subject as prescribed by the University.
  - Duration of Pre-University Examination will be 3 hours.
  Section A: Q.1. has 10 Short answer type Questions and which are compulsory.
  Section B: has 8 Questions, any 5 Questions are to be attempted and which are of descriptive, medium and numerical type.
  Section C: has 3 Questions, any 2 Questions are to be attempted, and which are of descriptive, lengthy and numerical type.

Industrial Visits

 
 

Our students gain experience from their lectures, tutorials and project work for investigating and applying material in real life situations through industrial visits. We adhere to the statement- “Seeing is Believing!” Such exposures provide a unique opportunity for students to gain insight into working environments related to their subject area.

 
     

Seminars & Workshops

 
 

Seminar and Workshop have a very important place in the workplace. It is offering the leading platform to students to share knowledge on the specific topic with expert people of different companies. In our department we have provided facilities for Seminar & Workshop to students for their effective and bright future. In these programs, students are able to interact with expert people who are facing real world challenges in their field. We are committed to our students for organizing at least one seminar/workshop in each semester.

 
     

Six Weeks Practical Training during Summer Break

 
 

It is mandatory to undergo six weeks practical training by the students of IV & VI semester after the end of Examination. After completion of Practical Training, They have to submit a Practical Training Report and deliver a presentation on what they have learnt while training.

 
     

Evaluation Criteria

 
  a) Practical Training Report - 15 marks  
  b) Seminar Presentation -     20 marks  
  c) Dress Code -                     05 marks  
  d) Attendance -                     10 marks

Grades (A, B, C OR F) are awarded based on the score of the students.

Project Work and R & D – Final Yr. Students

 
 

Though minor projects are carried out from III Semester onwards whereby students are required to make small projects. However, major Project is carried out during VII & VIII Semester. To motivate students to make Innovative and Original projects, management has incorporated best project award of Rs. 20,000/- to the group of students and Rs. 5,000/- to the concerned faculty guide.

The Counseling and Personal Development Service is a professional and confidential service, which is the major requirement for students in today’s world. Our college provides the facility of student counseling which helps students to explore the issues of concern and to plan for future in an effective way. Counseling helps in:

 
Empowering the student to find the right solutions of their problems.  
Mutual ongoing evaluation helps student to think in positive way for their difficulties.  
Giving self awareness to students.
