IEEE SSCS DELHI CHAPTER - DISTINGUISHED LECTURE COLLOQUIA

Ms. Parul Bansal, Assistant Professor from Electronics and Computer Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the “Distinguished Lecture Colloquia” organized by IEEE SSCS Delhi Chapter at STMicroelectronics, Greater Noida on 19th December 2014. The event was sponsored by IEEE-SSCS, STMicroelectronics, Free -scale Semiconductor, Keysight Technologies, Synopsys and IIT Delhi.

The objective of this lecture was to discuss various themes like technology direction; novel devices, memories, and radio technology; high-speed and precision data converters; wireline and on-chip communication; low-noise clocking, and low power design etc.. The lecture was divided into a series of well organised and informative sessions.

During the first session Prof. Madhavan Swaminathan, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. He gave an overview of the field of miniaturization by discussing the topic, “Devices, Circuits, Packaging and Systems – Understanding their integration for Managing Signal, Power and Thermal Integrity”.

The second session was focussed on the instruments and products dealt in by Keysight Technologies that includes measurement devices like oscilloscopes. Mr. Sanchit Bhatia, Digital Applications Specialist, Keysight Technologies delivered his ideas on the topic, “Power Rail Signal Integrity Measurements with Oscilloscopes”. Prof. Jingook Kim, Assistant Professor, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Republic of Korea presented his work on the topic “Novel Target Impedance Methods of Power Distribution Network for Effective Design” in the third session.

During the third session Prof. Jose Schutt-Aine, University of Illinois, Urbana explained ”Modeling and design of High-Speed Links”. The last session of the lecture was taken by Prof. Dries Vande GInste, Associate Professor, Ghent University, Gent. The topic of his research was, “Electromagnetic and Stochastic Modelling of On-Chip Interconnections of Passive and Active Circuits”. His presentation covered concepts like corner effect, electric field simulation method, electromagnetic compatibility, signal and power integrity, computational electromagnetics. He detailed his work by presenting a case study on “Total field near corner”.

A “Raise your hand” quiz was conducted at the end of this session which consisted of questions from the topics discussed during the lecture. Ms. Parul Bansal participated in this quiz and won the prize comprising of a book titled “Synthesis and Optimization of Digital Circuits by Giovanni De Micheli”.

Indeed, every session of the lecture was very informative wherein the speakers provided an excellent insight into their fields of research. The lecture was concluded by the organizers from STMicroelectronics where they thanked all the delegates and the participants.
