Guest lecture on GD / PI Skills by Prof. Nidhi Tak

1st March, 2016

The Electronics & Computer Science Department of Dronacharya College Of Engineering, Gurgaon organised a guest lecture on the topic “How To Crack Group Discussion and Personal Interviews” by Prof. Nidhi Tak, from IBS, Gurgaon on 1st March, 2016 . Prof. Tak guided the students on how to handle Group Discussions and Personal Interviews successfully.

The lecture started with primary focus on Group Discussion. The speaker said that these days, majority of business school and companies have started considering Group Discussions as a vital part of their selection process. She explained and made the students aware of different types of topics that are given to students during a group discussion from Current Affairs to Abstract. She also pointed out the major difference between a Group Discussion and Debate that students often confuse one with the other. With the help of an interesting presentation the speaker focussed on the areas which students need to master in order to crack any GD. Student’s body language, attitude and ability to listen and clarity in thoughts were few of the important traits on which the recruiters focus while judging a candidate’s potential. The Group Discussion Session was very interactive as the speakers explained every point by citing live examples to the students. After the discussion a mock GD session was conducted in which five students from the audience were invited to participate and were required to interact on an abstract topic.

The next session of the lecture focussed on cracking a PI (Personal Interview). PI is the ultimate and necessary step in the selection process for various companies and B - schools. During the PI session the guest lecturer focused on one of the most important question asked in almost every personal interview “Tell Me something about yourself ?”. She said that this question may apparently seem to be straightforward but is one of the trickiest questions of an interview. The speaker guided the students to answer this question in an appropriate manner by following a step - by - step process. She also pointed out the major mistakes the students make during personal interviews and emphasized on the ways to correct them. Prof. Tak concluded the session by conducting a mock Personal Interview by inviting a student from the audience as an interviewee.

The Lecture was very informative and interactive and was a major learning experience especially for the final year students who are currently in pursuit of placements.
