Industrial Visit to Yakult Milk Plant, Sonepat

Mr. Sooraj Kumar Goyal, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Computer Engineering along with our 35 students visited Yakult Milk Plant, Sonepat, Haryana.

Yakult also known as Yang Le Duo, is a probiotic dairy product made by fermenting a mixture of skimmed milk with a special strain of the bacterium Lactobacillus casei Shirota. It was created by Japanese scientist Minoru Shirota. In 1935, he started manufacturing and selling Yakult. in Japan and today with over 75 years of history, Yakult is a global leader in the probiotic drinks market with the wide range of probiotic.

Yakult helps improve intestinal function and build immunity. Probiotics are beneficial Lactic Acid Bacteria which are scientifically proven to improve overall health when consumed regularly in large numbers. Yakult is available in more than 6000 retail stores, supermarkets, bakeries and chemists. Yakult is marketed in different sizes. In Australia and New Zealand, Europe, India, Indonesia and Vietnam Yakult comes in 65ml bottles. In America (including Mexico, one of Yakult's largest selling markets), Japan, Philippines, Thailand and South Korea, 80 ml bottles are available. It is also available in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China where Yakult comes in 100 ml bottles.

In India, Yakult is manufactured at an ISO 9001:2008, OHSAS 18001:2007 and HACCP certified factory in Sonepat, Haryana. The factory is spread over 8 acres and out of this more than 30% area is the green belt area. Total factory is designed as per international standards and special care has been taken to maintain the highest level of hygiene standards and deliver the best quality product to its consumers. The process of making Yakult is completely automated and there is no human touch at any point of time.

This plant was inaugurated by Mr. Subodh Kant Sahai, Honorable Minister of State (independent charge), Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India, on January 18th 2008. The factory has a capacity of making 1 million bottles per day, which will be achieved in a phased manner.
