ONE-DAY WORKSHOP ON ANDIPOP 5.0

 

On 19th November 2014, Google Developer Group (GDG) of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a one day workshop on AndiPop 5.0 on. The objective of the workshop was to spread awareness about the upcoming features in Android Lollipop 5.0, Android Wear and various technologies introduced during Google I/O.

Google Developer Group Dronacharya College of Engineering, a sub-chapter of GDG New Delhi, provides a place where programmers and learners hangout to learn and impart knowledge about various Google technologies. The chapter runs under the guidance of Prof. Neelam Ruhil (HOD, Electronics and Computer Engineering Department).

The workshop commenced with a brief introduction on Google Developer Group by Mr. Anshul Patro, Organizer of the chapter. Ms. Parul Bansal, Faculty coordinator of the chapter discussed with the participants the motive behind organizing this workshop.

First session covered the aspects of Android Lollipop through interactive videos provided by Google developers. The session included topics like Material Design, Battery Saver mode, Do Not Disturb, Enhanced Notification and several other new features of Android Lollipop.

The second session was on Google I/O 2014, which is annual software developer-focused conference held by Google in San Francisco, California. Google I/O features highly technical, in-depth sessions focused on building web, mobile, and enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies.

The keynote speaker Mr. Sundar Pichai (Senior Vice President, Android, Chrome and Web Apps) discussed about Android market and Android One. Another expert Mr. Matias Duarta (Vice President, Design) elaborated the concept of Material Design. In Google I/O, Mr. Dave Bruke (Director of Engineering, Android) introduced ART (Android Run Time) and Project Volta.

Last session on Multiple Device Compatibility Support by Android Lollipop and its compatibility to various devices like Android Phone, Tablets, Wear, and TV was taken by Ms. Shalini Sharma, Technology Lead.

The workshop was interesting and useful as various features of Android Wear and its sensor, advantages of Wear along with upcoming changes were also discussed.
