Workshop on CISCO NETWORKING

30th September 2016

 

Computer Society of India (CSI) Student Chapter of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon and Network Bulls Gurgaon jointly organized a workshop on “CISCO Networking” on 30th September 2016. Mr. Baljot Singh (Training Specialist) from Network Bulls Gurgaon was keynote speaker for the workshop. 57 students from CSE, IT, ECS, ECE Department from DCE, Gurgaon attended the workshop.

 

During the lecture session networking basics was explained to students. Mr. Singh also explained the benefits of being Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Mr. Singh started his lecture with the explanation of Computer Networking. Mr. Singh stated a Computer Network as a group of computer systems and other computing hardware devices that are linked together through communication channels to facilitate communication and resource-sharing among a wide range of users. Networks are commonly categorized based on their characteristics.

 

Mr. Singh discussed firewall; it is implemented as a standalone hardware device or in the form of software on a client computer or a proxy server. It is designed to get some packets and filters other hence setup is highly secured. The two types of firewall are generally known as the hardware firewall and software firewall.

 

In the afternoon session, Mr. Singh discussed the PuTTY software and physically displayed router and switch. He explained that console port of router is connected to cable and the other end is connected to Computer. Mr. Singh demonstrated 1841 router, briefed that CISCO IOS has a command line Interface. It has three command line modes namely user mode, configuration mode and privilege mode. User Mode is the first mode a user has access to after logging into the router. The user mode can be identified by the > prompt following the router name. This mode allows the user to execute only the basic commands, such as those that show the system's status. Privilege mode used for troubleshooting problem in router and correct it. Privilege mode allows users to view the system configuration, restart the system, and enter router configuration mode. Privileged mode can be identified by the # prompt following the router name. User can change from User mode to Privileged mode, by running the "enable" command. Configuration mode allows users to modify the running system configuration. User can move from Privilege mode to configuration mode by running the "configure terminal" command from privileged mode. An “end” is used to exit configuration mode.

 

The workshop was very informative and the students learned basics of networking, Ipv4, IPv6 and command line modes. Student understood the scope and career options in the field of networking.
