IBM SoftLayer for Data Recovery and Backup

“Expect the best, prepare for the worst”

A live streaming session was conducted by IBM on “A Special Session on Data Recovery and Backup” on Thursday, 8th September 2016 to discuss about the data recovery and backup. Twenty five students of the fifth and seventh semester, from Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the online session at college campus.

 

Mr. Madhuresh Jha, Cloud Solution Architect at SoftLayer, focused on cloud backup and disaster recovery solutions that are available in the market and discussed the steps to implement self-deploy this environment. Mr. Jha explained that business continuity has always been one of the top concerns for businesses and having a data backup or disaster recovery, contingency plan becomes highly essential in order to mitigate the loss of critical company data, as well as to minimize system damage due to natural and man-made disasters.

 

Mr. Jha said that Backup and disaster recovery are not directly interchangeable terms, rather disaster recovery is not possible without backup in the first place. Disaster recovery is having the tested wherewithal to get systems restored and running as quickly as possible, including the associated data. He said that unleashing the power of IBM's cloud disaster recovery services to manage resiliency across your enterprise.

 

After that, Mr. Jha, discussed about improving storage density and reduce management effort with newest generation tape automation. He also discussed about improving application availability and shortening batch-processing windows for Z Systems data.

 

During the online session, Mr. Jha also talked about improving backup and disaster recovery through powerful data duplication, protecting data with remote mirroring while optimizing network bandwidth to help reduce costs, protecting data in virtual, physical, cloud and software defined environments as well as core applications and remote facilities.

 

The online session was very knowledgeable for students.
