2nd Open Policy Meeting of IRINN (Indian Registry For Internet Names and Numbers)

And

ISOC (Internet Society) Delhi Chapter Meeting

Held on 20th November 2014 at Indian Habitat Center , New Delhi

 

Mr. Akshit Chauhan, 3rd year student of Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the “2nd Open Policy Meeting of IRINN (Indian Registry For Internet Names and Numbers) held on 20th November 2014 at Indian Habitat Center , New Delhi.

 

Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN) is an organization in India that provides allocation and registration services of IP addresses and AS numbers. IRINN contributes to the society by providing Internet-related information as a non-profit, affiliation-based organization and performing research, education and enlightenment activities. The Internet Society (ISOC) is an international, non-profit organization founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related standards, education, and policy with a mission "to promote the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of all people throughout the world".

 

During the 2nd Open Policy Meeting of IRINN and the ISOC Delhi Chapter Meeting, speakers like Mr. Ajay Kumar, Manager, IRINN and Mr. Srinivas Chendi, Senior Internet Development Advisor, Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC)) expressed their views about various Internet Protocols i.e. IPv4 and IPv6. They discussed about various network models and the soon to be exhausted IPv4 addresses. Mr. Srinivas Chendi told about some facts of the internet and its usage, number of root servers present in India as well as in world, assigning of IP addresses on global level by Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) which is responsible for the global coordination of the DNS Root, IP addressing, and other Internet protocol resources.

 

Another Speaker Mr. Abhishek Gupta, Security manager, IRINN told about various Internet threats and their preventions. He expressed the difference between the security measures in IPv4 and IPv6. IPv6 is more secure than the IPv4 Protocol according to its architecture but there are still some flaws in it.

 

In the ISOC Delhi Chapter Meeting, Dr. Govind, CEO shared his views about Cloud Computing and Private Data on the Internet. Some Cyber Crime lawyers were also present during the event to share real life cases happening in the virtual world. They also gave some safety tips to people present there for safeguarding themselves over the internet. Overall, the event was very informative as well as relevant in current scenario.
