Industrial Visit to Cognitel-Gurgaon

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Dronacharya Engineering College, Gurgaon organized an industrial visit to Cognitel Training Services Pvt Ltd. at Gurgaon on 18th September, 2014 for the 2nd and 3rd year students. The faculty coordinator for the visit was Mr. Tanupriya Choudhury.

Cognitel Training Services Pvt. Ltd. is a Telecom and IT services company with specialization in Consulting, Research and Training. The Company is headquartered in India with presence in Kenya, Indonesia and Romania. Cognitel offers Engineering and Telecom Management Programs.

The College team was welcomed by Mr. Arvind Jain, faculty at Cognitel. He explained that presently there is a demand for high quality technical workforce for the Telecom industry that can be readily employed. He said that Cognitel provides Talent acquisition and development services to Telecom Operators, Equipment manufacturers and Service Providers. Cognitel runs highly job focused training programs for graduates seeking a career in the Telecom industry. These programs are a combination of theoretical as well as hands on experience delivered through Telecom labs. He added that the Cognitel has Strategic tie-ups with Telecom Companies to fulfill staffing and competence development needs.

He next explained the BSS and Radio networks program and how it helps engineering graduates who wish to seek career in the telecommunications industry. The target job role after completing this program is that of a BSS engineer in the Wireless infrastructure companies. The program is a combination of theory and practical experience provided in specially designed lab that replicates a live GSM environment. The broad topics covered under this program were:

1. Telecom fundamentals and GSM architecture

2. Introduction to GSM Radio Networks

3. Base Station Subsystem (BSS) Explained

4. BTS Site Elements

5. RF Site Survey fundamentals and Process realization

6. Line for Sight (LOS) survey for transmission connectivity

7. Transmission fundamentals and Network topologies

8. Drive Test Execution and Report Analysis

9. Health and Safety procedures

10. BTS and Microwave Implementation (in LAB)

11. BSS Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Procedures

12. Certification and Job readiness

He next discussed RF Planning Drive Test Optimization course and provides detailed understanding of Radio Network, Planning, Drive test and Optimization. He also introduced Planning principles, Site survey, Transmission and Drive test fundamentals. The course adopts a combination of theoretical concepts and exercises with the aid of industry standard tools. Coverage, Capacity and Quality planning of RF optimization fundamentals and lucidly exposes to the participants. Traffic Modeling, Network Dimensioning, Cell Planning and Optimization issues are presented in a clear and concise format to the participants.

This educational cum industrial trip was very enlightening and gave the students a feel of the R & D work being carried out in the field of IT industry, especially in mobile communication system and ICT.
