“WOMEN ROCK IT” – A LIVE TV BROADCAST

A Technology Career can be as varied, exciting and as glamorous as you want it to be – and it’s not just for the boys.”

Faculty members – Ms. Sarita, Asstt. Prof., Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Ms. Maneela Tuteja, Asst. Prof., Department of Mechanical Engineering along with 49 girl students from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the Live TV show of Women Rock- IT, on 5th February 2015. The event was organized by Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Vasundhra Enclave, New Delhi in collaboration with Cisco Networking Academy.

The Key Speaker of the seminar, Janet Ramey, Vice President, Technical Services, talked about the opportunities available for women in the IT industry, the various obstacles faced by them and how to overcome these obstacles by sheer determination, hard-work and time management. The discussion began with various prospects for women and their importance in the male dominated Information Technology field. This Session was followed by a panel discussion.

The first panelist Dr. S. Lakshmi Devi, Ex-Principal of the host college, talked about the advancements in technology from 1990s to the present day. She spoke about how the world today is warming up to all the advancements in IT industry, and how it has been a boon to the mankind. The second panelist Ms. Anuradha Sharma, Manager, Cisco’s Innovation Group Operation, India elucidated about the achievements of women who had made their mark in the Technology world and motivated the girl students. She also briefed about some areas in IT sector in which women can excel such as Cyber Security, Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things. Her talk was followed by an interactive session, wherein participants voiced their apprehensions about their scope in the IT sector. The third panelist Ms. Shikha Chadha, Product Manager, Accenture gave further details to the audience about the various initiative taken by IT sector, thereby defying the common belief that it is just about coding. She encouraged the students to locate their domains with which they are comfortable. The fourth panelist Ms. Ankita Tyagi brought forth the whole new topic of IPR– Intellectual Property Rights, and enlightened the audience with all the opportunities present in the field.

Ms. Anuradha Sharma, Manager, Cisco concluded the session, reiterating the importance of women in today’s world. The event was very illuminating and inspiring.
