NES Innovation Awards 2017

‘Idea to Entrepreneurship’

 

On 2nd March 2017, Ms Sarita, (Assistant Professor ,CSE) along with five girl students namely Sakshi Sangwan (17124), Sakshi Mittal (17123), Sudiksha Datta (17155), Riya Sharma(17119) and  Pallavi Joshi (17099) from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the NES Innovation Awards 2017  at Sumant Moolgaokar Auditorium, MCCIA Trade Tower, ICC Complex, Pune.  

 

The main goal of NES is to use innovative pedagogy and technology to bring the best global standards of skill development to the world’s under - privileged citizens and in order to achieve this goal it organizes Natarajan Education Society (NES) Innovation Awards every year. The students from various departments of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon also participated and eight teams from the college were selected in the top 50 finalists.

 

Natarajan Education Society (NES) has been established by Dr. Ganesh Natarajan, Chairman of the National Knowledge Committee of the CII, member of the Chairman’s Council of NASSCOM and a member of the Management Board of the multi - billion - dollar RPG Enterprises where he heads the IT sector and is the CEO of Zensar Technologies Ltd.

 

Ms. Gayatri Kelkar (Event Coordinator) started the event by giving a brief description of NES and how Dr. Natarajan formed this non - profitable organization in 2012. Then she welcomed the guests for the first Panel Discussion. The eminent panel comprised of Dr. Uma Ganesh ( CEO of Global Talent Track), Mr. Aayush, Ms. Pradnya, Mr. Kaushal (founder and CEO of Breathing Room) and Mr. Jaideep (CEO of Start - up).

 

The discussion was started by Dr. Uma, where she talked about entrepreneurial ideas. She focused on the conversion of an idea into a business plan and later into a startup that is beneficial for the mass. Her talk was followed by Mr. Kaushal, who shared his entrepreneurial journey. According to him, in developing countries like India it is very challenging to take up the initiative and start any work. Along with this, he added that the market teaches one a lot. The third speaker was Mr. Jaideep, who tried to differentiate the corporate culture with the entrepreneurial one. He expressed how jobs provide security but startups provide freedom and learning experience. Ms. Pradnya explained the importance to know feasibility of the ideas and the demand of the product in the market before implementation.

 

The last speaker for the discussion was Mr. Aayush who is the coordinator for the Pune Smart City Program. He discussed about incentives and Pune Idea Factory, which is a foundation that aims to support startups in India.
This was followed by a question - answer session, where participants put in intriguing questions and the speakers gave prominent answers which cleared the doubts of everyone. The session proved to be very interactive and informative. After a quiz session, the participants interacted with the panelists and asked their queries, where the benefits and procedure of Indian and U.S. Patent were discussed. The top five selected teams gave their presentation and an open forum was conducted where the teams were questioned by the judges along with other attendees.

 

The team of four members namely, Sakshi Sangwan (17124), Sakshi Mittal (17123), Sudiksha Datta (17155) and Shubham Bansal (17136), with the project entitled ‘Electricity Saver’ from the Department of Computer Science and Engineeringof Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaonwas awarded with the 2nd Prize in the competition. Along with the trophy, they received certificates and prize money of Rs.30, 000. It was a proud moment for the college and a great learning experience for the students.
