IEEE Technical Hands - on Workshop on "Website Development"

19th - 20th March 2016

IEEE Delhi Section SAC, organised a technical hands - on workshop on “Website Development” on 19th -2 0th March 2016 at Jamia Hamdard University, Delhi. Three students namely Anurag Vats (16029), Birender Singh Rawat (16043), Saurabh Kumar (17129), from Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the workshop.

The objective of the workshop was to enhance the technical skills of the students.

The instructor of the workshop was Prof. Sunakshi, from Jamia Hamdard University. The course of the workshop included introduction to the design, creation, and maintenance of web pages and websites. The major motive to conduct the workshop was to give practical knowledge to students about website creation, evaluating the quality of pre developed websites, learning about the web design standards, and take up projects to develop the websites.

During the workshop, Prof. Sunakshi gave basic introduction about web development. She said that Web development is a broad term for the work involved in developing a web site for the Internet or an intranet, which is a private network. Prof. Sunakshi explained that web development can range from the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web based internet applications, electronic business, and social network services and a more comprehensive list of tasks to which web development commonly refers, may include web engineering, web design, web content development, client liaison, client - side or server - side scripting, web server and network security configuration, and e-commerce development.

Prof. Sunakshi discussed that among web professionals, web development refers to the main non - design aspects of building web sites, writing markup and coding and most recently, web development has come to mean the creation of content management systems or CMS. These CMS can be made from scratch, proprietary or open source. In broad terms the CMS acts as middleware between the database and the user through the browser. A principle benefit of a CMS is that it allows non - technical people to make changes to their Web site without having technical knowledge. After that, there was the practical hands-on session in which the students were taught how to use the Eclipse, which is an Integrated Development Environment Tool (IDE) and develop web pages over it.

In the end, there was half an hour quiz session for creating awareness about IEEE. Workshop trained the students to develop technical projects and cultivate a platform for them to work on collaborative projects and implement ideas.
