CSI Symposium on Exploring the Potential of

Cloud Services

CSI Delhi Chapter in association with CISCO, CONVRGD, IEEE DELHI SECTION, IETE DELHI CENTRE and ISTE DELHI SECTION organised a symposium on “Exploring the Potential of Cloud Services” on 6th August 2015 at India International Centre, New Delhi. Five Students of V Semester namely, Monika Yadav (16954), Anurag Vats (16029), Brijesh Aggarwal (16044), Birender Singh Rawat (16043) and Priya Yadav (16955) from CSE Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the symposium.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted in the presence of Prof. Mini S. Thomas, Chairman, IEEE Delhi Section. The other esteemed guests included Mr. Sanjay Mahopatra, National Hony. Secretary CSI, Mr. Rajiv Garg, ED, BHEL, Mr. R.S Mani, Group Head, National Knowledge Network (NKN), Govt. of India, Prof. K.K Aggarwal, Former Vice Chancellor, GGSIP University, New Delhi and Mr. Akash Sarf, CEO, CONVRGD.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Thomas gave the brief introduction about CSI and stated that it is one of the largest and most professionally managed associations of IT professionals in India as it is directed towards the advancement of the theory and practice of computer science and IT.

Mr. Sanjay Mahopatra addressed the audience by guiding them about how enterprises take an Agile development approach and tighten the integration between development and infrastructure with DevOps practices that increase the probability of cloud project success.

Prof. K.K Aggarwal explained about cloud computing that it is not merely a technology, rather an approach to building IT services that harnesses the power of servers, as well as virtualization technologies that combine servers into large computing pools and divide single servers into multiple virtual machines. During his lecture, Prof. Aggarwal said that Cloud computing is seen by many as the next wave of information technology for individuals, companies and governments.

Mr. Akash Sarf presented that Cloud computing can be broken down into three segments: "application" "storage" and "connectivity." Each segment serves a different purpose and offers different products for businesses and individuals around the world. He concluded that only 35% of the value from workloads in the cloud today is being realized, leaving 65% of their value untapped.

In the end there was an interactive questions and answers session where the participants raised questions and their doubts about the topic, which were answered by the esteemed dignitaries. It was a great experience to know about the benefits of the cloud services , majorly utilized by the different companies.
