Seminar on “Progress of Make in India: The way forward for scripting India’s growth story”

The Economic Affairs Committee of PHD Chamber organized a seminar on “Progress of Make in India: The way forward for Scripting India’s Growth Story” on 23rd September 2015 at, PHD House, New Delhi.

The objective of the seminar was to discuss about high and sustainable growth trajectory of India, Mr. Amar Saraswat, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science Engineering from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the seminar.

Mr. Ajay Shankar, Chairman, Expert Committee Pre- investment clearances, Ministry of Commerce & Industry was the chief guest for the event. The seminar was moderated by Dr. S. P. Sharma, Chief Economist, PHD Chamber. The welcome remarks was given by Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Sr. Vice President, PHD Chamber, in which he focussed about India as major global manufacturing hub and discussed about significant opportunities for India in the field of marketing, export, import, and other several domains. He said that manufacturing sector is the backbone of any economy as it fuels growth, productivity and strengthens other sectors of the economy.

A theme presentation was conducted by Mr. Prabhat Jain, Chairman, Economic Affairs Committee, PHD Chamber & Director, Pathways World School, in which he discussed about several factors responsible to bring down the cost to start business, techniques for being a successful entrepreneur. He also discussed about impact of digitalization of Government offices. Mr. Anil Khaitan, Chairman, Industry Affairs Committee, PHD Chamber explained about “Role of Chamber in contributing to make in India”, in which he majorly focussed on manufacturing industries.

Mr. Akhil Bansal, Co-Chairman, Economic Affairs Committee, PHD Chamber & Deputy CEO, KPMG discussed about Industry perspective and highlighted that India is a great consumer of mobile phones with more than one billion users though in the present scenario, only assembling of the parts is and not manufacturing is done in India. Prof. Arunaditya Sahay, Dean (Research), BIMTECH discussed about the perspective of Indian manufacturing sector. Dr. B. B. Bhattacharya, Eminent Economist, & Former Vice Chancellor, JNU discussed about Business and Industry friendly policies. He said that instead of servicing, focus should be given on producing for other countries and not for consumption in India itself. During his talk, he laid emphasis on entrepreneurship, research and development. Dr. Dietrich Kebschull, Chairman, Indo German Export Promotion Programme (IGEP) Foundation and Chief Guest of Seminar and Mr. Ajay Shankar in their sessions discussed about several initiatives to facilitate ease of doing start-ups in the country and discussed of perspective of foreign investors about India.

Mr. Gopal Jiwarajka, Vice President, PHD Chamber delivered the vote of thanks.
