Energy Efficiency Technology for MSMEs

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized a workshop on Energy Efficiency Technology for MSMEs on 30th Jan 2015 at CII headquarters, New Delhi. Mr. Niraj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the event.

Mr. Rahul Chaudhry, co-convener of CII Delhi state panel on MSME and Director of Servel India Limited coordinated the event and delivered the welcome address. In the welcome address he discussed why energy saving is important, and its importance for MSMEs. MSMEs has employable potential at low capital cost, however, the funding is a major problem for MSMEs. Hence, saving is very much important for MSMEs. One of the major sectors, where saving is easy, is investment in energy. Earlier it was said that money saved is money earned, but actually, money saved is benefit earned. Mr. Chaudhary, highlighted the benefits of energy efficiency technologies for MSMEs.

The keynote address was given by Mr. Suresh Yadvendra, Director, MSME Development Institute, Ministry of MSME, Government of India. He outlined various aspects of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Program (NMCP) of Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India. He discussed the Technology and Quality upgradation support to MSMEs. He highlighted the cluster analysis approach and its benefits.

Mr. J. P. Jain, Chief Executive Officer, Arvind Industrial Product Corporation, discussed the solutions offered for energy saving by the organization. He said, saving can be increased by monitoring. In case of energy, it can be saved if used efficiently. To use it efficiently, it must be monitored. Wired and manual monitoring is cumbersome, costly and inefficient, which can be replaced by wireless monitoring.

Ms. Sweksha Lal, Manager, Ecolibrium Energy, discussed various services provided for Energy management solution in India. The company provides solutions to monitor and control power grid infrastructure for utilities and industries. It offers cost effective automated reading systems. Wireless and cloud hosted real time accurate data can be accessed from anywhere and can be centralized for better management and decision making.

Mr. Alok Dixit explained how LED lighting is better than the traditional systems. He discussed benefits of LED lights. He also outlined how LED lighting provides better energy efficiency and saving. He discussed many technical and financial aspects of LED lighting.

Mr. Ashish Saraswat, Project Engineer, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), discussed the services offered by BEE.

The workshop provided an insight of why energy efficiency is required, its benefits, particularly for MSMEs. It also provided various existing solutions for energy saving.
