Seema Das, Associate Professor from Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering attended a One week coordinators’ workshop conducted by NMEICT, MHRD Govt. of India from 15th -19th September, 14 at IIT Kharagpur .The workshop was about how to teach control system subject and how to conduct the main workshop which is going to be conduct from 2nd Dec, 14 to 12th Dec, 14.
|
On first day, chief guest Dr. Souvik Bhatacharjee, Deputy Director of IIT kharagpur and guest of honour Dr. Sunanda Dasgupta Dean (SRIC) inaugurate the event. Dr. Raja Datta, the Principal Investigator of Project ‘T10KT’ (Teaching 10,000 teachers), NMEICT, IIT Kharagpur introduced two experts Dr. Tapan Kumar Goshal, from Jadavpur University and Dr. Sidharth Mukhopadhyay from IIT Kharagpur. |
Dr. Souvik Bhattacharjee introduced the concept of ‘flip teaching’ i.e. reverse teaching where students would read the subject at home and practically apply the techniques and methodologies in class with the help of teachers. |
Dr. T. K. Goshal started the session with the inception of control system subject. The control system took its birth with World War II where a lot of technology was developed in terms of fighter plane, tracking of radar etc. He made us familiar with the pedagogy of control system subject which we must follow while teaching the subject. |
Dr. S. Mukhopadhayay discussed the various practical examples which we always encounter in day to day life, e.g. washing machine, microwave, shower of a bathroom etc. |
On second day, Dr. T. K. Goshal discussed the various types of inputs in control systems i.e difference between manipulated input and disturbance. He explained different types of control systems with examples like systems used in aircraft and boilers of steam turbine. |
Dr. S. Mukhopadhayay discussed the problem of ‘two axis robot’ which is programmed to have a laser cutting tool follow a saw tooth wave. |
On Third Day, Dr. S. Mukhopadhayay discussed the stability concept using simple examples such as pendulum, relaxation oscillator etc. He differentiated between different types of stability i.e global, local, asymptotic etc. In Tutorial he discussed the problem of controllability and observability in details and made us work on how to calculate computing stability of nonlinear and time varying systems using linear time invariant stability concepts. |
Dr. Partha Pratim Chakravorty, Director IIT Kharagpur addresses the participants and motivated them to contribute in education for building up the nation. |
Dr. T.K.Goshal differentiated between different types of controllers like, PI, PID and PD and how sensitivity is affected with changes in feedback. |
On Fourth Day, Dr. T.K.Goshal continued with same topic of controller design followed by tutorials with performance specifications, steady state, transient, frequency domain, stability margins. How Gain margin and Phase margin effect the stability of the system design and implementation and validation part was also covered. |
On Fifth Day, Dr. T.K. Goshal and Dr. S. Mukhopadhayay discussed sampling of signals, slow and fast sampling effects, discretization of continuous time dynamic models, programming tools and software validation part. |
Dr. Raja Datta took the feedback from the participants. In Valedictory function, Prof. N. Mondal and Prof. Sidharth Sen presided as a chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Both of them shared their views. |
The Admin and Technical team of Project ‘T10KT’ gave the presentation on how to conduct main workshop (2 Dec. 14 to 12 Dec. 14). |
The workshop was useful and educative. The interaction with the highly qualified and experienced faculty has been a motivation for the participants. |
