Seminar on Engineering Education & Research

organized By National Instruments

22nd September 2015

A one day Seminar on ‘Engineering Education and Research’ was organized by National Instruments at Hotel The Hans, New Delhi on 22nd September 2015. Amninder Kaur, Associate Professor, ECE Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the event.

This event was organized to explore National Instrument's Industry - Academia initiatives and upcoming technology trends in Engineering Education. It provides a platform to young researchers to enhance their knowledge in the state-of-the-art research in the field of Virtual Instrumentation. The main topics discussed at the event were as follows:

1. Role of Software defined hardware tools in research and teaching

2. Exploring Signal Processing & LTI Systems using LabVIEW - Sampling & Reconstruction, Aliasing, FFT, Windowing, Digital Filter Design, etc.

3. An integrated approach to teach circuits: Theory > Simulation > Implementation > PCB

4. Wireless Communication Systems – Teaching & Research

5. Biomedical Signal Acquisition & Processing

Mr. Karun Jain, key note speaker from National Instruments (NI), briefed the participants that how the industry-leading NI hardware and software technology is used by more than 35,000 companies. This improves education in more than 6,000 universities around the world. He told that Hands-on learning with LABVIEW solidifies the comprehension of theoretical concepts and prepares the students for careers and advanced research. Every day, researchers at academic institutions around the world use NI platforms to solve grand challenges in numerous application areas.

Mr. Rahul Kumar, Application Engineer, NI, discussed that the preparation for future scientists and engineers has turned into a hands-off barrage of theory and equations that extinguishes even the brightest of flames. This gauntlet of mathematics and computer simulation prevents students from actually experiencing the physical phenomena that keeps them engaged. He gave a brief overview about the various toolboxes to Explore & study Signal Processing & LTI Systems using LabVIEW - Sampling & Reconstruction, Aliasing, FFT, Windowing, Digital Filter Design, etc.

Mr. Aman, Application Engineer, NI, briefed the applications of LABVIEW in biomedical signal processing. He told that producing safe, high-quality devices for patient care is a primary concern, but reduced development time is also critical to establishing an early position in a very competitive market. So by integrating hardware, software, validation, and reporting tools, the National Instruments graphical system design platform provides the best solution for rapidly developing and testing complex medical devices.

Overall the workshop has been very useful in providing an opportunity especially for the researchers to showcase and to discuss their research issues with the eminent researchers in the field.
