OPTICAL FIBER

A one-day workshop on “Optical Fiber Network” was organized by Electronics and Communication Engineering department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon on 15th October 2013.The objective of this workshop was to encourage the students to work with Optiwave Software Programming.

The key speakers Mr. Luv Kumar, Assistant Professor, DAVIET, Jalandhar; Mr. Amandeep Singh and Mr. Abhimanyu, Sr. Application Engineer, Gigasoft India disseminated knowledge about technical concepts and applications of Optical fiber, Optical Transmitter, Optical Receiver, Optical Link etc. They also shared important skills required to properly design, install and maintain fiber network. During the practical session the students used latest fiber optic technology and equipment with the help of simulation tool library present in ‘Optiwave’ software. The speakers made the students aware how to safely and properly prepare fiber-optic cable for acceptance testing, splicing, termination and mid-entries on communication systems.

The participants practiced applications of fiber optics in TELCO, broadband and premises (LAN) applications. They also learnt how to splice, connect, test and troubleshoot optical fiber networks in order to increase efficiency, reliability and on-the-job safety as well as reduce cost and downtime.

Final year students from ECE Department attended the workshop. It was a good learning experienceas the students gained knowledge about the capabilities of ‘Optiwave’ software in different applications. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks to all the speakers by student coordinators Shivani and Shailey Gulati from ECE Department.
