A SEVEN-DAY NSS PROGRAM OFFICER’S TRAINING ORIENTATION COURSE

 

Two faculty members Mr. Ashok Kumar and Mrs. Rita Yadav from the department of Applied Sciences & Humanities of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) Program Officer’s training Orientation Course as NSS Program Officers. The program was organised by Empanelled Training Institute (E.T.I) in association with Institute for Development & Communication (I.D.C), Chandigarh at M.D. University, Rohtak from 24th to 30th July 2013.

The objective of this program was to provide training/orientation to NSS Program Officers for developing understanding about the philosophy of NSS and making education more relevant to the present situation to meet the felt needs of the community and supplement the education of the university/college students by bringing them face to face with the rural situations.

The training orientation course started with welcome address by the NSS co-ordinator, M.D.University, Rohtak Dr. Ranbir Gulia and inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief-guest Prof. (Dr.) S. S. Chahar, Director, Campus School, M.D.University, Rohtak. Addressing more than 50 NSS Program Officers and co-ordinators, Dr. Chahar emphatically stated on honesty, punctually and dedication in social services. He also shared how to encourage youth to participate enthusiastically in the process of national development and promote national integration through corporate living and cooperative action.

During the exhaustive program the distinguished academicians and social-activists Dr. Satya Vir Singh Malik, Training Coordinator E.T.I./I.D.C. Chandigarh; Prof. (Dr.) Dalip Singh Thakur, Directorate Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh; Prof. (Dr.) K. S. Mahalwal, Dr. Charanjeet Kaur, State Liaison Officer, Haryana; Dr. G. K.Tuteja, Deputy Program Advisor, Regional Centre, Ministry Of Youth Affairs & Sports, New Delhi; Dr. R. P. Saini from Red Cross Society, Haryana shared their views on a variety of topics relevant to organizing NSS camps.

Dr. Satya Vir Singh Malik enlightened the attendees on the broad objectives of National Service Scheme. He also expressed that a dedicated and devoted Programme Officer can plan, execute and evaluate the NSS activities in a proper perspective. Prof. (Dr.) Dalip Singh Thakur shared valuable inputs on maintenance of accounts & documents, audit, diary -writing, etc. He also imparted information on administrative and organisational structure of NSS whereas Prof. (Dr.) K. S. Mahalwal stated the relevance of human rights to NSS Volunteers.

Dr. Charanjeet Kaur stated on utilization certificate, timely submission of report etc. She stated the need to develop an awareness and knowledge of social realities to have concern for the well being of the community and engage in creative and constructive social action.They can execute all administrative and policy directives of the government in rural as well as urban areas of our Nation.

Dr. G. K. Tuteja talked about NSS Mega Camp, Rajiv Gandhi Adventure Camp, Inter-state/International Youth Exchange Program, Indira Gandhi NSS award Republic Day Camp Creation of tree consciousness among the community Prevention of soil erosion; Establishment of nurseries; Plantation of trees and preservation and upkeep of trees; Weed control, pest management, rodent control etc. Another speaker Dr. R. P. Saini explained about first aid training course for NSS Program Officers.

On the last day, the NSS Program Officers exchanged their views and understanding related to various aspects covered during the training. The valedictory address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) H. S. Chahal, the Vice-Chancellor, M.D.University, Rohtak.
