WORKSHOP ON NATIONAL MISSION ON EDUCATION THROUGH INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (NMEICT)

 

Prof. (Dr.) Jitender Kumar HOD (IT), Prof. Meeta Verma HOD (Civil), Prof. A.N. Mahajan from ECE Department, Prof. Ajoy Kumar Das from Mechanical Engineering Department and Ms. Chesta Aggarwal from CSE Department represented Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in the Dissemination Workshop on National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) organized by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on 08th October 2013 at Hotel Le Meridian, New Delhi.

The objective of this workshop was to disseminate ideas on developing quality education in the technology with a  mission to share innovative approaches in designing various projects, writing research papers and to explore new prospective of engaging students in hands-on experiments.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S.S. Mantha Chairman AICTE, New Delhi in the august presence of eminent academicians Mr. Praveen Prakash Joint Secretary, MHRD New Delhi, Prof Deepak Pathak from IIT Bombay, Prof. Ranjan Bose from IIT Delhi , Prof Mangla Sunder Krishan from IIT Chennai, Prof. Avinash S Pantand Prof. Kavi Arya.

Prof. Mangla Sunder Krishan shared that virtual labs provide complete learning mechanism. He discussed about three types of virtual labs, Remote Triggered, Measurement based and Modeling/ Simulation based. She also introduced the audience to NPTEL, which provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and humanities streams. She demonstrated the online lecture content on NPTEL, and its usefulness in the classroom including well researched video lectures. Prof. Deepak Pathak said that teachers should not consider themselves as paid employees; teacher is a mentor who encourages the students to think, who challenges student’s mind. Prof. Ranjan Bose from IIT Delhi shared that the objective of establishing the Spoken Tutorial Resource Centre is to conduct Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) workshops on different courses like Linux, Latex, Scilab, Python, PHP - MySQL, Lotus, etc. at various colleges and schools, designed in a highly conducive way to self-learning.

Another speaker Prof. Kavi Arya explained e-Yantra and its benefits. Prof. Avinash S Pant spoke about Aaksash tablet and informed the audience about the features of Aakash-I and Aakash-II.

The workshop concluded with a speech delivered by Mr. Pallam Raju Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Over 1000 delegates from various engineering colleges attended the workshop and came acrossdifferent projects being run under the prestigious National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT), launched by theMinistry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.
