IEEE WIE MEET-2015

 

A WIE (WOMAN IN ENGINEERING) Meet 2015 was organized by IEEE Student Branch at BVCOE New Delhi on 14th March 2015. Eight students, namely, Mandisha Sharma(16085), Aarushi Madan(16001), Aarusi Tuteja(16002), Ruchi(16136), Sonali(16158), Arshi(16182), Sneha Gupta(16157) and Shweeta Popli(16154) from Computer Science & Engineering Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the meet.

 

IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to promote women engineers and scientists. The mission of IEEE WIE is to facilitate the recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines globally. IEEE WIE envisions a vibrant community of IEEE women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity. The WIE affinity group is strived to achieve the goals of WIE. The aim is to encourage the technical endeavors of women in engineering and science and to inspire them to scale greater heights of excellence in their fields of interest.

 

The meet was hosted by Ms. Rashmi Anand to facilitate retention of women in technical disciplines globally. The meet began with a guest lecture on the topic “Talk on Women Empowerment” , “Domestic Violence” and “Women’s Safety”. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Rashmi Anand who is a writer and counselor. The speaker discussed about one of her book named “SHELTER”. Ms. Anand explained about the collaboration with the Delhi Police where she established the good communication and understanding between the common people and the policemen. She glanced on the few points over the women empowerment. She encouraged everyone to be self-dependent and fight for their rights. Being the youth of the country not only women, men should also take initiative to provide the resources to those women who lack resources but have enough of technical knowledge.

 

The lecture was followed by a Group Presentation Activity in which the main purpose of WIE Meet was covered. In between the session, a Quiz was held which comprised of various rounds such as Finding objects, Brainstorm, Brand name and many more. After that, the group discussion was conducted in which they asked us for a problem and an audience or the event organizers was supposed to give an answer to that particular problem.

 

WIE meet encouraged the girl students opt engineering as their career option. Meet showed various ways to success in with references. In this modern era no one has lesser priority. To make our country a developed country one should respect women and provide them with equal rights so that they should also get the opportunities to be the part of technical world. In total the event was very fruitful and knowledgeable.
