The LEADearthSHIP was jointly initiated by TERI and GENPACT, in 2013, with main objective to create and empower the next generation of youth to achieve sustainable development and play a proactive role in building a low carbon society.

Ms. Ranjana Saikia, Director, TERI started the event with a welcome address. She gave a brief on the aim of LEADearthSHIP and said it is a platform for future youth leaders in India. This initiative believes that young people of the country must be engaged in ideation, innovation and action that would ensure overall development of the nation.

Ms. Supriya Singh, Fellow member of Educating Youth for Sustainable Development, TERI further proceeded the event with a lecture on the leadership skills and said that the 21st century youth should imbibe themselves to play a vital role in developing India. She then highlighted the objectives of the LEADearthSHIP project which included the responsibilities of preparing the youth to have leadership roles in their institutions, communities and cities, facilitating them in understanding innovation and enable them in learning through various examples of young leaders.

Anshu Gupta, 2015 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and Founder of GOONJ, motivated the youth to question the defunct systems and make concerted efforts to give back to the society.

LEADearthSHIP created a network to unite young people working for the progress of the nation and to develop competencies in young people to integrate sustainability in thought and practice in any field and vocation. It aimed at maximizing India’s youth potential to meet the requirements of the fast changing world and catapulting their ideas into action. The students could have an insight of what roles they could play in nation building and were very motivated to see young people of their age playing such vital leadership roles at different organizations.
