The Image Processing and Machine Learning for Pattern Recognition 2016 workshop was organized by UIET, Punjab University, sponsored by TEQIP - II from 11th - 16th July 2016. Ms. Neha Singla, Assistant Professor, Information Technology Department represented Dronacharya College of Engineering in the workshop. |
|
The topics covered in the workshop were Machine Learning and its Applications, Artificial Neural Networks, Testing of Biometric devices, Artificial Intelligence, Enhancing Printing Imaging systems Performance, Patterns in Thoracic Radiology, Identification and Classification of Oral Cancer Lesions, Feature extraction etc. |
|
Day 1:11th July 2016 |
|
The session was inaugurated by Prof. O.P Katari (Director Research UIET), Prof. Savita Gupta (Academic Coordinator UIET), Dr. Sukhwinder Singh (Chief Coordinator of workshop). |
|
The session was initiated by Prof O.P Katari (Director Research at UIET) in which he gave a brief introduction about research areas, importance of pattern recognition, its importance in medical area etc. which is then followed by Prof. Sukhwinder Singh who described importance of workshop and how this will help in different areas of research. After that Dr. Savita Gupta discussed real time applications of machine learning, pattern recognition. She also discussed multimedia data to make intelligent system. |
The next session was taken by Ms. Geeta Arora (Consultant at IOT Space) in which she discussed Machine Learning (field of study that gives the computers to learn without being programmed) and its applications (Develop system that can automatically adapt themselves to the users) and its types (Supervised, Unsupervised, Reinforcement), workflow, libraries etc. The last session was a webinar session taken by Dr. Terima Kasih (Prof at France). |
DAY 2: 12th July 2016 The morning session was taken by Dr. Amod Kumar (Chief Scientist at CSIO Chandigarh). He discussed Artificial Neural Networks. He explained technology as Mechanical devices, vacuum tubes, transistors, medium scale integration, large scale integration, optical devices. The second session was taken by Ms. Ravinder Sahi (Senior Director at STQC). Her area of research was testing of biometric devices. She discussed how biometric systems are linked with pattern recognition. The last session of the day was taken by Dr. A.S Arora (Prof at SLIET Longowal). He talked Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks. He started with intelligence in real time applications, importance, concept, its history and some interesting examples. |
DAY 3: 13th July 2016 |
The morning session was taken by Prof. (Dr). Puneet Goyal, IIT Roorkee. His area of research was Enhancing Printer Imaging system performance using Halftonic Algorithm based on Printer Dot Pattern Analysis. The next session was taken by Prof (Dr.) Ashutosh Nath, PGIMER Chandigarh. His area of research was Patterns in Thoracic Radiology. He started with radiologic investigation (different organ system and anatomic locations), the clinical approach (perform basic clinic evaluation, arrive at list of clinical possibilities, rank in terms of probabilities, get necessary investigation, identify diagnosis). The last session was taken by Prof Vinod Kumar, IIT Roorkee. He focused on Identification and Classification of Oral Cancer Lesion. He defined oral cancer facts and figures as cancerous growth occurring within structures of oral cavity known as oral cancer, potential occurrence are lower jaw, borders of lips, oral cancer has 80 - 90% survival rate etc. |
DAY 4: 14th July 2016 |
The morning session was taken by Prof (Dr.) Deepti Bathula, IIT Ropar. She talked Medical imaging. She focused on various areas such as CT Scan, EEG (Electroencephalography), MEG (Magnetoencephalography), PET (Position Emission Tomography), SPECT (Single Photon Emission CT) etc. The next session was taken Dr. Raghavendra Nath, Researcher at IBM Delhi, in which he discussed what makes Alpha Go! He defined it as a Game Tree (Board game like chess) solved by recursively computing an optimal value function in a search tress. The last session was taken by Prof. Ramesh Agarwal JNU, Delhi. He discussed features selection (Selecting an appropriate subset among existing features) and features extraction (redesigning and combining existing features) in pattern recognition. |
DAY 5: 15th July 2016 |
The session was started by Prof. Ramesh Aggarwal, JNU Delhi. He taught Deep Learning with the introduction of single layer perceptron and multilayer perceptron. He also gave brief introduction about hidden layers in image processing and pattern recognition. The evening session was taught by Prof. (Dr.) L.N Sharma, PEC University, Chandigarh. His topic was digital image processing of satellite data. He started with satellite remote sensing that gives repeat coverage such as geostationary, polar sun, GO satellite missions etc. He also talked about sensors as electromagnetic energy interacts with physical matter in different ways. |
DAY 6: 16th July 2016 |
The session was started with feedback forms followed by quiz. Dr. Savita and Ramesh Tuli did the end session with very effective speech and also distributed certificate to all the participants. |
