The 75th CSIR Foundation Day was celebrated at CSIR - National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi on 27th September 2016. Five faculty members, Ms. Sarita, Assistant Professor (CSE) , Ms. Parul Bansal Assistant Professor (ECS), Mr. Vinod Kumar Assistant Professor (IT), Mrs Sangamitra Arora Associate Professor(ECE), Mr. Amit Bhatia Assistant Professor (ME) along with 30 students from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the open day. The organisation gave an opportunity to educational institutes to visit to their campus. |
The objective of the visit was to involve the students in NPL research activity where they got a chance to meet experts of diverse fields, especially in Micro / Nano Electronic related Scientist & Technocrats. |
The National Physical Laboratory is the National Metrology Institute of India and a Premier Research Laboratory in the field of Physical Sciences. The National Physical Laboratory was conceptualized in 1943 by the Governing Body of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, laid the foundation stone for the laboratory on January 4, 1947. |
The students learned about semiconductors, nanotechnology, antennas during the visit to several labs at NPL including Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) Lab, Ultrafast Transient Absorption Spectroscopy Lab and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) Lab. The students were also shown a short video which gave them an idea about the role of National Physical Laboratory to strengthen and advance physics - based research and development for the overall development of science and technology in the country. |
Students have got good exposure related to measurement science, Faraday Experiments, World Class Invention Of Green Energy Source Hydro - electric cell (HEC), Energy harvesting, Luminescent Materials, Environmental sciences, Superconductivity, Computer Numerical Control machines (Lathe machine), Magnetic Materials, Organic Photovoltaic, Flexible Organic Electronics, Organic White Light Emitting Diodes and various other characterization techniques. There were various scientific models and exhibits on display, as well as an audio - visual show on the scientific activities of NPL. |
CSIR - NPL had also organized a project competition “Display of Scientific Models by School / College students” with different themes of Clean Energy, Clean Water, Clean Environment, Health, Digital India / Information Technology and Swachh Bharat. Two projects from Electronics and Computer Engineering Department participated in the competition. |
1. Internet of things based Healthcare System (Theme: Health)
The project was presented by Jyoti (16767), Shweta Saini (16773), Amit Saini (16763) and Akansha Marwah (16762) from VII Sem under the guidance of mentor Ms. Parul Bansal (Assistant Professor, ECS Dept.). The project aims to provide Health care services for people of all age groups. The health care system is a system that can be kept at home as a kit or can be worn as a band according to a particular person in need after the prototype is compressed.
2. Solar Power Automated Robotic Cleaning Machine (Theme: Swachh Bharat)
The project was presented by Nikhil Kaushik (17769) from V Sem under the guidance of Ms. Parul Bansal. Solar Power Automated Robotic Cleaning Machine is a machine built to support the social cause - SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN. |
The students presented and demonstrated the working of their project and competed against other projects from different colleges. The projects were then shortlisted and judged by experts on the basis of innovation, feasibility, working, cost, idea and scope of the project. |
The results for the project demonstration were announced during the Award ceremony in the august presence of Chief Guest Prof. J.V. Yakhmi (DAE - Raja Ramanna Fellow) and several eminent personalities from academics and industry. |
The students from DCE Gurgaon bagged 1st position in the competition for their project “Internet of things based Healthcare System” and received a Cash Prize of Rs. 4,000. |
