TWO WEEK ISTE WORKSHOP ON “COMPUTER NETWORKING”
 

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a workshop on “Computer Networking” from June 30th, 2014 to July 5th, 2014. The workshop was conducted by National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India) an important initiative taken by IIT Bombay to work with Engineering Colleges with a mission to enhance the teaching skills of faculty members across India. It was coordinated by the Remote Center Coordinator, Dr. Jitender Kumar, Workshop Coordinator, Mr. Hansraj Yadav.

 

The objective of this workshop was to impart knowledge of Computer Networking on a larger scale and at a faster rate; to empower students and teachers in engineering colleges on a large scale; to encourage teachers to contribute learning material and to publish the contents in open source on the portal.

 

Dr. Deepak B. Phatak, Professor, Department of CSE, Indian Institute of Technology, inaugurate the workshop. Prof. Kameswari Chebrolu, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay, covered Introduction, history and Layering, Physical Layer: Theory, Encoding techniques, Link Layer: Framing, Error detection and recovery, Reliability, Multiple Access, Ethernet, Token Ring, Switching, Network Layer: Addressing, Routing, IP, Transport Layer: Reliability and Congestion Control, Application Layer: DNS, Web/HTTP, Email, FTP, Peer-to-peer systems during technical clarification session of computer networking. Another distinguished academician Prof. Sridhar Iyer Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, IDP in Educational Technology, IIT Bombay. He discussed his views on Think Pair Share Strategies and MOOCs.

 

Prof. Bhaskaran Raman from IIT Bombay shared significant Tips on handling student projects. A valediction ceremony was conducted to conclude the workshop and to encourage the participants to incorporate the various teaching methods and knowledge discussed during the workshop while teaching the students. All the participants were awarded with a participation certificate to encourage their involvement in endeavors of such a great stature.

 

The workshop was useful and informative as the participants learnt some innovative ways to apply technology in teaching-learning pedagogy.
