IEEE DELHI SECTION STUDENT CONGRESS 2016

10th - 11th September 2016

 

IEEE Delhi Section organized “Delhi Section Student Congress 2016” at Delhi Technological University, New Delhi on 10th - 11th September 2016 Aditya Goswami (16007), from Computer Science & Engineering Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the congress. The two day event comprised of various leading edge sessions by the prominent personalities and witnessed top 150 delegates from various engineering colleges across the section.

The Chief Guest of the event, Prof. Subrata Mukhopadhyay, Chair, IPSC Asian and Australasian Infrastructure WG of IEEE PES inaugurated the congress along with Dr. Rachana Garg, SAC Chair, IEEE Delhi Section; Dr. S. Indu, Branch Counsellor, IEEE DTU; Mr. Saksham Saxena, Section Student Representative, IEEE Delhi Section Student Network and Mr. Raghav Apoorv, Chair, IEEE DTU.

First day session started with the Inauguration Ceremony by Prof. Subrata Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Rachana Garg, Dr. S. Indu, Mr. Saksham Saxena and Mr. Raghav Apoorv. Then Dr. Rachana Garg, SAC Chair, IEEE Delhi Section welcomed the chief guest, speakers and delegates on behalf of IEEE Delhi Section and illuminated the audience with the objectives and goals of the event. The ceremony was followed by an interactive session by the Chief Guest, Prof. Subrata Mukhopadhyay. His exceptional vision to make IEEE Delhi Section the most active section was an inspiration for the volunteers and motivated them to work towards the upliftment of the society as a whole.

Then, IEEE Delhi Section launched its first smart phone application to facilitate and assist the student branches and members in various aspects. The smart phone application can be used as a publicity platform for various Chapters of student Branches and is an initiative by the Delhi Section to connect more no. of student branches within the section. This was followed by the launch of the third Edition of IEEE Delhi SAC Newsletter, “Eloquence”. The newsletter was based on the theme of volunteerism and thus reflected the spirit of volunteers working at different levels in the section through various activities organized by IEEE Delhi Section and its student branches.

A motivational session on “Importance of Technical Innovation in Industries” was taken by Mr. Narang. N. Kishor, Founder, Narnix. His innovative ideas and informative session about Scope of Designing in emerging industries was a subject of interest for young minds. He motivated students to push their domains beyond conventional teachings and explore new horizons. After this, Dr. S. Indu, enlightened the gathering about the initiatives of IEEE DTU SB and its contribution to this magnificent society.

Then, an interactive session was held by Dr. Rachana Garg, where she edified the student members and especially executive committee members of various student branches to work in a directed way to make their events successful and different initiatives that could be launched to retain student members in their respective Student Branches.

Last session of the day was taken by Mr. Paritosh Sharma where discussed on the topic entitled “Question the present, and build communities to push the human race forward”. This was followed by an inspiring workshop conducted by Kamal Seth, Co-Founder, and Human Circle on the topic “Turning your passion into career”. A brainstorming session ensued this where delegates put their views forth on “What IEEE means to you” .

On the second day, various parallel tracks took place to assist student member and WIE members. A talk was organized on IEEE HTC, AIYEHUM, EPICS by Dr. Nitin Saluja. Owing to his determined approach, his project was selected at AIYEHUM, an initiative of IEEE. This was followed by an informative session by Ms. Varshini Ailavajhala, Mentor, IEEE Delhi Section on “How to run a Student Branch Effectively”. She enlightened the delegates about various awards and funding procedures available in IEEE. She also mentioned the importance of reporting in this session.

Another session was organized on “Importance of Technical Innovation in Industries”, by Mr. Nishant Mittal, Co-Founder, The Testament. A WIE track was also organized for women in engineering delegates, which was taken by Mrs. Prerna Gaur, Secretary, IEEE Delhi Section. Mrs. Prerna discussed about IEEE WIE AG and importance in the technical domains. Then Ms. Varshini Ailavajhala gave a presentation which included procedures to initiate a WIE AG in their Student Branches, WIE funding and Awards etc. Moreover, with an effort to uplift women in engineering, Vidhi Luthra and Keerti Gautam, on behalf of IEEE Delhi Section WIE AG launched Project WIE Stand, an initiative which will steadily work towards the growth of Delhi Section WIE as a resilient community and envisions supporting and encouraging fellow women of the Section. The WIE track was one of the most illuminating sessions for the delegates.

Mr. Prashant gave a talk about his startup “CHAKR INNOVATION’ and gave an example of elevator pitch. He discussed the increasing pollution in Delhi and the adverse effects it has on the living organisms. At last, Mr. Prashant gave a small briefing regarding the product which is a device that can convert smog from industries, generators etc. to ink and paints and thus can contribute to reduce pollution.

The next session was taken by Mr. Saksham Saxena and Mr. Aakash Bansal giving a roundup of events organized by IEEE Delhi SAC like TI workshop and various other sessions and elucidated the delegated upon upcoming projects like YP / Teacher – Student Mentor Outreach Program 2016 and encouraged students to join it. Then Mr. Ravindra Joshi, Treasurer, IEEE Delhi Section and Chair, IEEE Delhi Section SIGHT and HTC presented a talk on “IEEE SIGHT “. A talk was conducted on “How Technology and Human Capital can influence Data Research in Development Sector” by Ms. Prena Mukharya, Founder, Outline India. This was ensued by a session on Internshala, India's leading Internships and Online Training Portal. As a part of this, delegates were guided about the various training and internship opportunities provided by this firm that could be advantageous for the student members.

The workshop was innovative, informative and students actively took part in the question answer session.

The two day extravaganza concluded with a closing ceremony where delegates were given certificates for their contribution in making the event successful. DSC’16 was indeed a bag of opportunities for the participants as along with illuminative sessions, there were experiences and wonderful memories to take back.
