EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS

To spread awareness about environment, IEEE Delhi Section SIGHT celebrated “Earth Day” on 22nd April 2015 at Select City Walk, Saket, New Delhi. Four students namely Vishal Yadav (15124), Tushar Mehmi (15108), Upender Yadav (15109), Sandeep (15094) from Computer Science & Engineering Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the event.

Earth Day is celebrated to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment and is coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. IEEE Communications Society, the leading worldwide professional organization dedicated to the advancement of communications technologies, emphasized the ongoing need to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.

During the event, the special focus was given on usage of solar energy devices. Mr. Subhash explained about the environmental benefits by using solar energy. He also discussed about various ways minimize greenhouse effect. Various activities such as Quizzes on solar energy awareness, Awareness drive on Energy saving cum solar lamp, Painting Competition, and a session on awareness about solar energy and how to fight with greenhouse gases, were held during the event.

CSE student Sandeep participated in Painting and Quiz Competition and won goodies. It was an excellent event in which students learned about the worsening conditions of the earth’s environment and the steps which could be taken to preserve our environment.
