SEMINAR ON “MAKE IN INDIA: ELECTRONICS”

 

Mrs. Poonam Yadav, Assistant Professor of Electronics & Computer Engineering Department from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a Seminar on “Make In India: Electronics” on 3rd December, 2014 at PHD House, New Delhi.

The inaugural address of the seminar was delivered by Mr. R.P Jhalani, Chairman, Task Force on Electronics and Engineering Goods, PHD Chamber followed by addresses from other prominent personalities including: Mr. Deepak Bharadwaj, Head Corporate Affairs, Samsung India, Mr. Saurabh Sanyal, Executive Director, PHD Chamber. All of them highlighted the various aspects of the Indian Electronic Industry on various topics like Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), Export-Import problems and many more.

Hon’ble Chief Guest, Mr. Ajay Shankar, Former Member Secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, Govt of India emphasized on the fact that the Indian Electronic Industry is still at an infant stage and India needs to create an Investment case for itself. He also focused on the needs of electronic manufacturing goods and to attract investors in the electronics field. He talked about the government promoting “NET ZERO IMPORT BY 2020 IN ELECTRONICS SECTOR” that will change the Indian Economy.

Director, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India;. Mr. Bikas Kr. Singh, Head-Govt. Affairs, South Asia, Lenovo; Mr. Deepak Bharadwaj, Head Corporate Affairs, Samsung, India; Dr. Rajiv Kapoor, HOD, Electronics and Communication Department, Delhi Technical University; Mr. Amrit Marwani, CMD Sahasra Electronics Pvt. Ltd. They discussed various strategies to set up a promotional cell to encourage foreign investments and from alliances with trade bodies from other countries to facilitate technology transfers to India; initiatives taken by DeitY to bring about a more transparent and conducive environment for small businesses and other relevant issues.

The outcome of the Seminar was to initiate some ways reducing import burden as visualised by our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. For this India needs to invest in the electronic sector. There should be interaction between small scale Industry and Academic Institute to fund smaller projects.
