Industrial Visit to NETWORK BULLS

21st September 2016

CSI Student Chapter, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized an Industrial Visit to NETWORK BULLS, Gurgaon on 21st September 2016, Mrs. Kshitija Pol (Associate Professor, CSE Dept.) along with 47 students from CSE, IT, CSIT, ECS & ECE Departments of DCE, Gurgaon visited the company. The visit was organized with an aim of providing the students a brief understanding of Networking Fundamentals & Equipment.

Network Bulls founded in 2009, is a leading Cisco organization based in India introduces Asia’s biggest Cisco labs.

Our team was welcomed by Mr. Pramod Singh, Network Specialist. Then, Mr. Baljot Singh (Training Specialist) gave the Overview of Company & Introduction to Computer Networks. He also explained about the three basic aspects of Engineering Student i.e., “What, Why and How”. He gave the tips for the HR round in the placement. He stated Network as set of devices (often referred to as nodes) connected by communication links. A node can be a computer, printer, or any other device capable of sending and/or receiving data generated by other nodes on the network. He explained the type of a network with an example. Types of Networks are LAN, WAN & MAN. Mr. Singh also discussed MAC address & IP address and ended his Lecture session by briefing OSI reference model & device used in each layer.

During the lab session, students along with Mr. Singh visited CISCO lab, in which he discussed straight & cross cable wire, when it is used and how it is connected to hub, switch & router. Mr. Singh discussed difference between Switch & hub. Hub is used in star topology. When hub receives a packet every time it simply broadcasts the packet to all terminal .While Switch is an intelligent device it. When switch receives a packet first time it broadcast the packet, then switch store its MAC address in a table. Next time when packet is arrived for same destination then it directly send to particular node.

In the end, Mr. Singh explained about PuTTY software. He said that PuTTY is an SSH and telnet client, developed originally by Simon Tatham for the Windows platform. PuTTY is open source software that is available with source code.

It was very educative experience for the students as they learnt basic of Computer Networks, IP addressing, OSI reference model & type of Network.
