CSI 50th Golden Jubilee Annual Convention on “Digital Life” |

The Computer Society of India (CSI) organised the 50th Annual Convention to celebrate its Golden Jubilee year. It was a four days Annual Convention and series of Board Meetings from 2nd - 5th December 2015 at Bharti Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Computer Applications and Management, New Delhi. |

Over 1500 delegates including IT heads of PSUs, Academicians, Manufacturers of ICT products, ICT Service providers and ICT users across the country attended the meeting. Mr. Vijender Singh Hooda, Associate Professor, Department of Information Technology and Mr. Amar Saraswat, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the convention.

The theme of the convention was Digital Life. The objective of the convention was to serve as a forum for discussions and deliberations on the state of the art research, development and implementations of Information and communications technology (ICT). It provided as a platform for technical exchange within the research community & technical talks and panel discussions.

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon was awarded “Best Accredited Students Branch Award” for the year 2014 - 2015, by Prof. Bipin V. Mehta. President, Computer Society of India. Mr. Vijender Singh Hooda, received the Longest Serving SBC Award by the Members of CSI.

Research papers were presented as a part of the convention. CSI invited original research papers on ICT and interdisciplinary streams of Engineering and science focused on “Digital Life” that shall contribute to the national vision of “Digital India”. Special sessions were organized on the following topics:

- Next Generation Networks
- System and Architecture
- Nature Inspired Computing
- Cyber Security
- Real Time Language Translations
- Software Engineering
- Sensors

On 2nd December 2015, the Inaugural Function was held in presence of Chief Guest, Shri R. S. Sharma, IAS, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory of India, Guest of Honor, Shri J. S. Deepak, IAS, Secretary, DeitY, Ministry of Communications & IT, Govt. of India, Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, Former Founder Vice Chancellor, GGSIP University, New Delhi and Prof. Anirban Basu Vice President & Chairman, Conference Committee, Computer Society of India. Prof. Bipin V. Mehta, President, Computer Society of India presided over the seminar.

Prof. Aggarwal discussed about the themes and importance of Information Technology and Computer Science. He said that innovations to make the existing methodologies better, is the need of present scenario. He also discussed about the quality of Education and Research.

Prof. Bipin Mehta explained various areas such as Digital Connectivity, Bharat Net Program, and Digital Lockers. He focused on the importance of Optical Fibre Network, Accessibility for internet to every citizen, quality of education, Mobile connectivity and Digital Identity.

Shri J. S. Deepak was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award by Computer Society of India, for his valuable contribution in the field of Communications. The keynote speaker, Prof. S. V. Raghavan, Former Scientific Secretary, Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA), Govt. of India discussed that Telecom community is primarily comprised of those in the business of creating and running telecom infrastructure for providing telephone services.

CSI Meeting for all the regional Heads, State Student Coordinators (SSC), State Branch Coordinators (SBC) and the Vice Presidents (VP) of all the regoins was held in which various important issues were discussed. The meeting was presided by Mr. Sanjay Mohapatra, Hon. Secretary, CSI, Mr. Shiv Kumar, Regional Vice President CSI (Region -I), Mr. Raju L Kanchibhotla, Regional Vice President CSI (Region - V), Mr. K. Govinda, Regional Vice President CSI (Region -VIII), and Dr. Suresh Chandra Satapathy, Division Chairperson CSI (Division - V).

During the meeting, the discussion was about to give maximum benefit to the student members, to organize more workshops, seminars, conferences for the students. Several issues specific to the regional chapters were also discussed during the meeting.

A meeting was conducted for the CSI Delegates, presided by Mr. R. K. Vyas, Hon. Treasurer, CSI and Mr. Sanjay Mohapatra, Hon. Secretary, CSI, with Mr. Devaprasanna Sinha, Regional Vice President CSI (Region -II), Dr. Vipin Tyagi, Regional Vice President CSI (Region - III), Mr. Hari Shankar Mishra, Regional Vice President CSI (Region - IV), Mr. Raju L Kanchibhotla, Regional Vice President CSI (Region - V), Mr. Mankikar Ravikiran, Division Chairperson CSI (Division - III), and other members of Nomination Committee . The meeting primarily focussed on Branding of CSI. Several points were discussed which could take CSI to the upper level. The other factors which were discussed during the meeting included how to increase CSI base in remote areas and make it more vibrant and approachable by organizing more and more events and improving interaction with the industries.
