ONE – DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON OPENGL

Two faculty members Mrs. Neha Malik and Mrs. Minakshi Memoria from Computer Science Engineering Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a one day National Workshop on OpenGL in collaboration with Indian Society for Technical Education organized at ITM University, Gurgaon on 24th October 2013. The objective of this workshop was to focus on Application Development in OpenGL. OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a cross-language, multi-platform application programming interface (API) for rendering 2D and 3D computer graphics. The API is typically used to interact with a Graphics processing unit (GPU), to achieve hardware-accelerated rendering. OpenGL was developed by Silicon Graphics Inc.

Mr. Prakhar Jain, Core Engineer-Graphics, Viz Experts gave a brief introductionabout the architecture of Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) and how the graphics industry has evolved from a very primitive architecture to the modern day GPU’S being built by giants like Nvidia, Radeon etc.

Ms. Shilpa Mahajan, Associate Professor (CSE) ITM University also demonstrated the use of basic graphic primitives in OpenGLsuch as points, lines etc to create more complex objects like polygons, spheroids etc.

The participants also got hands on practical experience on the use of Blender & Autodesk Maya. Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications and video games whereas Autodesk Maya commonly shortened to Maya, is 3D computer graphics software that runs on Windows, Mac OS and Linux, originally developed by Alias Systems Corporation (formerly Alias|Wavefront) and currently owned and developed by Autodesk, Inc. It is used to create interactive 3D applications, including video games, animated film, TV series, or visual effects.

The workshop came to an end with the distribution of certificates to all the participants.
