SYNOPSYS UNIVERSITY SYMPOSIUM 2014

Mr. Ajit Kumar and Mr. Sunil Bansal, faculty from the dept. of ECE, attended one day conference on Custom IC Design & Device Modeling, which was conducted by Synopsys University in collaboration with Eigen Technologies Pvt. Ltd. at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi on 7th March 2014.

The preliminary session focused on the highlights of Synopsys India University Program. Mrs. Gunjan Singh, EAM, Synopsys initiated the session with a discussion on the role of Synopsys VLSI and TCAD design Tools for next generation innovations. She stated Synopsys delivers industry leading Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and educational resources to the universities worldwide.

The second session discussed the challenges and opportunities in Custom Design Implementation. The speaker Mr. Atul Bhargava, ST Microelectronics, spoke of the challenges and opportunities available in Custom IC Design Verification. He briefed about Critical Area and Critical Feature Analysis in much detail for Litho Friendly Design.

The topic of the third session where Mr. S. Rajagopal, Sr. Application Consultant, Synopsys familiarized the delegates with the Laker Custom Design Tools. He illustrated various attractive features of Laker for custom circuit design and layout. Dr. Souvik Mahapatra, (Prof. EE, IIT Bombay) briefed about the problems associated with the scaling of the devices technology in his lecture on Rising Opportunities with Research in TCAD. He explained non-ideality of the device in detail and also illustrated various emerging design technological research area as solution.

The concluding session was on TCAD-Sentaurus overview where Ms. Karishma Karna, Application Engineer, Eigen Technologies, demonstrated to design FET using TCAD-Sentaurus Tools. She explained the features associated with the TCAD-Sentaurus.

Overall, it was a really worthwhile symposium, which proved very beneficial for all the participants. The experts of VLSI Society gathered at one place to share their knowledge and views. This program was extremely useful in understanding and recognizing various research activities in the field of IC Design and Device Modeling.
